Nesta segunda-feira, o presidente Ricardo David concedeu entrevista ao programa Globo Esporte e confirmou as duas negociações.

‘Tivemos algumas conversas.

Fuller, Norwell stage Gloucs fightback

James Fuller and Liam Norwell fought back with three wickets each for Gloucestershire to reduced Northamptonshire to 73 for 7 by the close on day one at Bristol.

04-Sep-2012
ScorecardJames Fuller and Liam Norwell fought back with three wickets each for Gloucestershire to reduce Northamptonshire to 73 for 7 by the close on day one at Bristol. It followed four wickets for Luke Evans as the visitors dismissed their hosts for 220.Pitch inspector David Hughes found no fault with the wicket on a day dominated by the seam bowlers and featuring some pretty ordinary batting. It was Andrew Hall with 3 for 37 who ripped out Gloucestershire’s top order, taking his wickets in the space of 11 balls at a cost of two runs as Gloucestershire slumped from 41 without loss to 44 for 4, while Evans finished with 4 for 38 from 13 overs. But the home side’s total was soon looking more than decent as Northants plunged from 30 without loss to 72 for 7. Only Stephen Peters, with 35, offered much resistance as Fuller, 3 for 25, sent back Niall O’Brien, Rob Newton and Hall with a pacy spell from the Pavilion End. Norwell’s 3 for 21 was just as impressive from the Ashley Down Road End, claiming the wickets of David Sales, Kyle Coetzer and Peters. There was little sign of carnage ahead when Gloucestershire openers Benny Howell and Ed Cowan put together a solid opening stand of 41 at the start of the day. Then Howell, on 29, was dropped at second slip by Peters off Luke Evans and it signalled a transformation in fortunes. Next ball Evans rapped Howell on the pads and gained an lbw verdict.Cowan, back in Gloucestershire’s team after a short spell as temporary overseas player earlier in the season, went leg-before for 8 in the next over as Hall began to make rapid inroads, swinging the ball and getting some seam movement from the Ashley Down Road End. His next two overs saw Dan Housego’s off stump knocked out of the ground for 1 and Hamish Marshall pinned lbw on the back foot for a duck.Alex Gidman launched a counter-attack with four fours in an over from David Willey, all punched through the off side, before, with the score on 95, Ian Cockbain had his middle stump sent flying by Willey having made 10.It was 95 for 5 at lunch and the afternoon session saw Gidman reach his half-century off 48 balls, with 10 fours. He added 33 for the sixth wicket with brother Will before falling to another lbw verdict, Willey claiming his second victim. Will Gidman was caught in the slips driving at a wide ball from Jack Brooks and when Fuller edged a catch to the wicketkeeper off Evans Gloucestershire were 151 for 8.Jon Batty and Anthony Ireland, on loan from Middlesex, saw the home side to tea at 206 for 8 and Batty reached a battling half-century straight after the interval, having faced 89 balls and hit six fours.Ireland soon perished to a catch behind off Evans for a handy 22 before Batty was last man out, caught at point making room to hit Evans through the off side.

Trego swings it Somerset's way

Peter Trego took four wickets on Marcus Trescothick’s return to the Somerset side, as Lancashire’s batsmen struggled again

It seems to have escaped many people’s attention that, despite the loss of Marcus Trescothick for most of the season through injury, Somerset have remained one of the Division One title contenders. So it was fitting on his return that they continued that impressive form on a rain-hit opening day against Lancashire. As captain, leading batsman and outstanding slip fielder, Somerset have struggled to replace Trescothick while he has been sidelined for the last three months with ankle ligament damage, yet they have remained consistent enough to be well placed behind the leaders, Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire.During a day with enough rain around to dampen even the most enthusiastic of county cricketers, it became apparent why they have been so consistent, expertly exploiting bowler-friendly conditions to make major inroads into Lancashire’s batting line-up in the 52.2 overs possible.Perhaps inspired by Trescothick’s first Championship outing since April, his comeback was overshadowed by an outstanding display from Peter Trego, their combative allrounder, who took his wicket tally to 38 by claiming 4 for 34. Bowling exclusively from the River End and benefitting from a stiff breeze that aided swing bowling for most of the day, Trego continued Lancashire’s desperate form in the defence of their title.Trego bowled six successive maidens from the start of the day and it was 41 balls before Lancashire were even able to score a run off his bowling. Bowling wicket to wicket and allowing the conditions to do the work, he had already dismissed openers Paul Horton and Stephen Moore by the time Trescothick allowed him a rest shortly before lunch with figures of 10-7-12-2.By the time he returned for his second spell in the evening session – rain washed out most of the afternoon – he was required to break up a stubborn 79-run stand between Karl Brown and Ashwell Prince that threatened to turn the day in Lancashire’s favour. Brown had battled for over two hours for his 39 when he drove loosely at Trego off the front foot and lost his off-stump, which precipitated a late collapse of three wickets for 15 runs in only 34 balls.Steven Croft followed five overs later, edging Alfonso Thomas low to second slip to give Trescothick his second catch of the day, before Trego halted Prince’s defiance with the first ball of the next over when he was adjudged to have edged behind.Only four more overs were possible before rain curtailed play for the final time and Lancashire, whose batting unit have only passed 300 four times in the previous 11 completed Championship matches, look unlikely to improve on that dismal record. It should certainly be an interesting Championship debut for Andrea Agathangelou, a South-African born batsman with a Cypriot passport, who will resume tomorrow morning unbeaten on 0.Lancashire, as they have to be wavering just above the relegation zone, remain optimistic and Brown believes the swing generated by Trego should also help their own attack. “Trego got a bit of swing, and if that movement continues it will really help our bowlers because Glen Chapple and Kyle Hogg swing the ball more than most bowlers,” he said.”Hopefully we can make the most of the conditions as well. He tries to do different things when he’s bowling, he tries to get you out in different ways and he’s quite clever the way he goes about it. I enjoyed the battle out there, getting stuck in, it was good fun. We are in a tough position in the league and we are going to have to fight our way out of it.”

Compton no longer seeks perfection

Nick Compton has vowed not to waste what he suspects might be his final opportunity to win a place in England’s Test side by becoming sidetracked into another impossible search for perfection.

Nick Compton has vowed not to waste what he suspects might be his final opportunity to win a place in England’s Test side by becoming sidetracked into another impossible search for perfection.Compton’s prolific early-season form for Somerset has won him an England Lions call up against West Indies in Northampton next month and has identified him as the likeliest player to break into a relatively unchanging England top order. For Compton, the grandson of Denis, one of English cricket’s most revered batsmen, it all brings back memories of a successful Lions tour five years ago which turned sour when he was dropped by Middlesex and eventually switched counties to resurrect a faltering career.”I put a huge amount of pressure on myself after coming back from a successful Lions tour and I really wanted to kick on,” Compton has told ESPNcricinfo’s senior correspondent George Dobell in a wide-ranging interview. “Looking back, though, I was far too intense. I was trying to attain perfection, and I’m not sure that exists in cricket. I got into a downward spiral. I wanted it all too badly.”I’m not 21 now. I’ve played a bit. I’m focused on the immediacy of my career. I’m focused on fulfilling my role for Somerset as well as I can. You learn. I’m a calmer person now and I’ve settled on a formula that works for me. If I get caught up in aesthetics it takes me down the wrong path.”I know this might very well be my last chance. And of course I’m excited. I’d love to play for England. I’d bite your arm off. But it’s also a distraction. The disappointment I experienced in the past was devastating and I don’t want to feel like that again.”Read the full interview here
