A minha preocupação é com meu time. Nós temos que impor. Se vamos conseguir ou não sobre Boavista, Botafogo ou qualquer equipe, só saberemos depois do jogo. O jogo sai do 0 a 0 – afirmou.

Leeds: Tony Mowbray confirms Ian Poveda talks

Blackburn Rovers boss Tony Mowbray has confirmed he has spoken to Leeds chiefs regarding Ian Poveda, The Lancashire Telegraph report.

The Lowdown: Poveda’s return from injury

Poveda, who Victor Orta signed for Leeds back in 2020, made the move to Ewood Park in the summer on a season-long loan deal. However, the 22-year-old has been out of action since November after requiring ankle surgery.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-updates/” title=”Latest Leeds United updates!” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/cropped-2022-04-02T155252Z_391313781_UP1EI421841M9_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LEE-SOU-REPORT.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

He has recovered back at Leeds’ Thorp Arch training base but did go and watch Rovers at Ewood Park on Saturday afternoon against Blackpool, suggesting a return to the second-tier side could now be on the cards.

The Latest: Mowbray’s comments

The Lancashire Telegraph relayed comments from Mowbray regarding Poveda on Thursday. The Rovers boss admitted he has ‘spoke to Leeds’ about the possibility of Poveda returning to the club for the Championship run-in.

He also confirmed that Blackburn have continued to pay their contribution to Poveda’s salary and are looking to bring him back next week before Leeds’ trip to Crystal Palace.

The Verdict: Caution needed

Poveda is back in training but hasn’t had any game time, so Leeds, Blackburn and the winger need to be careful over the coming weeks.

It’s easy to see why Rovers want Poveda back at Ewood Park as they seek a playoff place, however, Leeds know the risk of bringing a player back too early from injury.

Patrick Bamford now looks set to miss the rest of the season following his setback, so the club won’t want the same thing to happen for Poveda.

Pundit Alex McLeish believes Everton could be leading the way to sign Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek on a permanent basis, Football Insider report.

The Lowdown: Impressive first start

Van de Beek made the move to Goodison Park from Old Trafford for the second half of the season late in the January window.

The Toffees pipped Crystal Palace to the Dutch midfielder’s services and the 24-year-old starred on his first start under Frank Lampard last weekend.

Michael Ball labelled his display against Leeds as ‘perfect’, whereas Lampard has shown his own love for the player, revealing Van de Beek has been a dream to work with since arriving on Merseyside.

The Latest: McLeish’s comments

Talking to Football Insider, McLeish, who contributes for BBC Radio 5 Live, believes the Toffees could now be in ‘pole position’ ahead of a summer move.

“There’s no doubt there’ll be a lot of clubs (interested).

“If Man United have signed him in the first place then he’s obviously a player of great pedigree.

“A lot of clubs would have wanted him in the first place. They will be looking on with interest, keeping an eye on his situation.

“Of course, Everton might be in pole position.”

The Verdict: Likely?

The next few months could well be key in regards to Van de Beek’s long-term future, and you wouldn’t bet against a full-time move to Everton materialising.

He has played just 579 minutes of Premier League football over two seasons for United, so if he becomes a regular under Lampard and helps steer the Toffees away from the relegation zone, all parties may well be willing to discuss a permanent transfer at the end of the season.

However, Van de Beek is under contract with the Red Devils until 2025, is on £120,000-a-week and cost United over £35m back in 2020, meaning a permanent move could be costly for Everton.

In other news: Blow for Lampard as another Everton player reveals he is out for 3 months alongside Mina.

Yorkshire slip to 34-run loss

Chasing 156 for victory, Yorkshire never looked like getting there once opener Adam Lyth had gone and they limped to a final total of 121 for 9

04-Jul-2010
ScorecardThe new £21million Carnegie pavilion and media centre was in use for the first time at Headingley on Sunday but Yorkshire were unable to celebrate the occasion, going down by 34 runs to Warwickshire in a lacklustre display in the Friends Provident t20 North Division. Chasing 156 for victory, Yorkshire never looked like getting there once opener Adam Lyth had gone and they limped to a final total of 121 for 9, Ant Botha doing most of the damage with 3 for 16.It was a different story while Lyth was at the crease, however, because the young left-hander hit a flurry of boundaries off the opening overs from Boyd Rankin and Neil Carter as Yorkshire raced to 40 inside five overs. But after cracking 34 from 16 balls with six fours, Lyth drove at Steffan Piolet’s first delivery and was caught behind by Richard Johnson.Gerard Brophy was stumped off Darren Maddy and after being dropped twice off Piolet, Herschelle Gibbs was bowled by Imran Tahir. Yorkshire were missing Anthony McGrath with an injured thumb and when Jacques Rudolph fell to Botha they were 81 for 4 and sinking quickly, the last two wickets going down to consecutive balls from Keith Barker. After Warwickshire had won the toss, Neil Carter made sure they got off to a flying start with a typically aggressive 16-ball 21 that included three fours and a six but once he had been yorked by Tino Best – who sent down several deliveries at over 90mph – Yorkshire’s five-pronged bowling attack appeared to have gained the upper hand.Maddy had three fours and two sixes in his 19-ball 33 and Barker top-scored with a more sedate 35 from 31 deliveries but of the remaining batsmen only Botha made any impression with an unbeaten 26.Adil Rashid was once again Yorkshire’s most economical bowler with the wickets of Jamie Troughton and Ian Westwood at a cost of only 20 runs from his four overs but the top wicket-taker was Rich Pyrah who fully atoned for his last-ball 12 which resulted in a tie with Northamptonshire a couple of days earlier.Pyrah had Rikki Clarke caught behind by Brophy and in his final over before Piolet and Tahir succumbed to boundary catches to leave the allrounder with figures of 3 for 20.

Allround Essex too strong for Glamorgan

Essex moved into the top four of the Friends Provident t20 South Division with a comprehensive 66-run victory over Gloucestershire at Bristol

23-Jun-2010
ScorecardEssex moved into the top four of the Friends Provident t20 South Division with a comprehensive 66-run victory over Gloucestershire at Bristol. The Eagles posted 184 for 4 after winning the toss, Matthew Walker top-scoring with 66 and Scott Styris blasting 41 including five fours and two sixes. James Franklin took 2 for 33.In reply, the Gladiators could manage only 118 all out in 17.3 overs as Styris, Chris Wright and Danish Kaneria claimed two wickets each. The home side remained rock bottom having won only two of their eight matches. Only youngster Chris Dent (31) and Chris Taylor (32) could make any impression on the Essex bowling as Gloucestershire slumped again, having been bowled out for only 68 in their previous game with Hampshire Royals. They were never in the hunt after experimental opener Jon Lewis fell for a duck in the opening over, sent down by Styris. Too many batsmen offered catches, the best of them a tumbling effort from Tim Phillips at deep mid-wicket to dismiss Steve Snell.Earlier, Essex had also made a poor start to their innings with Ravi Bopara (two) run out off the third ball by Franklin’s direct hit at the bowler’s end from mid-off. But Alastair Cook and Walker soon repaired the damage, adding 63 in eight overs. Cook smashed a Gemaal Hussain full toss over mid-wicket for six and also hit three fours in making 38 off 32 balls before top-edging a short one from Franklin to cover. The real acceleration came when Walker and Styris plundered 60 in four overs between the 13th and 16th, with Styris twice lifting the off-spin of Kadeer Ali straight over the bowler’s head for six. It was 147 for 3 when the New Zealander fell to Franklin having faced only 21 deliveries. Walker followed with the total on 165, having reached a half-century off 34 balls, with eight fours.Hussain went for 42 off his four overs. Lewis was the pick of the Gloucestershire bowlers, conceding only 19 from his full stint. It was the Eagles’ fourth win in seven t20 games and they remain well on course for a quarter-final place.

Kirby gets no luck as Kervezee impresses

Moeen Ali has put Worcestershire the verge of a first-innings lead against Gloucestershire, but on another day Steve Kirby would have taken a bag of wickets for the visitors

George Dobell at New Road30-May-2010

Steve Kirby must wake up some mornings feeling rather like Sisyphus. He was the unfortunate fellow who so offended the gods that he was sentenced to an eternity of pushing a rock up a hill, only for it to roll down just before the peak. Which is how Kirby must feel trying to win games for Gloucestershire despite his butter fingered slip cordon and his mis-firing batting line-up.Just what Kirby has done to offend the gods remains uncertain. Sisyphus seduced his niece, took his brother’s throne and betrayed Zeus’s secrets; Kirby is, by all accounts, an excellent uncle and has shown no inclination to seize any thrones.Yet he has enjoyed no fortune. Despite earning a well-deserved reputation as one of the best fast bowlers in the country and coming tantalisingly close on several occasions, he has never won an England cap. And, on a day when he could easily have claimed 4 for 20, he instead conceded nearly six an over, remained wicketless and limped off the field 10 overs before the close suffering from what may well have been a broken heart. He deserved better. Generating sharp pace on a sluggish wicket, he troubled all the batsmen only to see two relatively easy catches put down off his bowling and several other edges fly to the third man boundary. The end result was a match that remains evenly poised at the halfway stage. Though the hosts, seven points behind third-placed Gloucestershire but with a game in hand, at one stage looked to be on the verge of establishing a substantial first innings lead, the visitors fought back strongly in the final overs. At one stage Worcestershire, with seven wickets in hand, trailed by just 31 runs. Gloucestershire then claimed 3 for 7 in 23 balls, as the day finished with Worcestershire 16 behind but only four wickets left. Gloucestershire, who have not won a first-class game at New Road since 1986, are right back in the match. The best batting of the day came from Alexei Kervezee. The 20-year-old, who qualifies for England in December 2011, oozed class as he cut, pulled and drove with delicious timing to pass 50 for the fifth time in the championship season. Twice he skipped down the pitch to loft the left-arm spin of Vikram Banerjee for straight sixes and his half-century – studded with seven fours and two sixes – occupied only 45 deliveries.Moeen Ali was slightly less convincing. Though he unleashed some typically languid drives down the ground, and flicked the ball off his legs sweetly, his innings was interspersed with some nervous moments outside off stump. Several times he flashed only to see the ball pass perilously close to the slips, while he also edged Banerjee between keeper and slip on 32.Still, Moeen and Kervezee’s partnership bodes well for the future of Worcestershire cricket. With a combined age of just 42, they added 107 in 18.3 overs of fearless, joyful strokeplay that helped their side rebuild from 107 for 3.Batting had looked far less straightforward for their colleagues. Both Daryl Mitchell and Vikram Solanki were undone by the extra bounce of a pitch that remains unreliable, with Mitchell caught at short-leg off the glove and Solanki caught off the glove at gully. Though Phil Jacques prospered for a while, he departed to an outside edge after feeling for one outside off stump.Things could have been even better for Gloucestershire, however. Solanki was dropped twice, both times off the deserving Kirby, once before he had scored and again when he had just two. If the first chance, to Steve Snell at second slip, was straightforward, the second, to the normally reliable keeper, Jonathan Batty, was as simple as they come. The value of Kervezee and Moeen’s partnership became apparent once Kervezee played around a straight one from Lewis. Ben Smith, who hasn’t scored a first-class century since the dawn of time (or July 2006 for those who like their statistics a little more precise), departed later the same over to a fine, diving slip catch as he prodded forward, while Richard Jones was bowled by a surprisingly sharp yorker from Gidman.Moeen remains, however, and, if he earn his side a lead of around 100 on the third day, will have done much to set up victory that could prove vital in the promotion race.Earlier Gloucestershire were grateful for the contribution of Chris Taylor as their batsmen struggled once again. They currently average the lowest score per wicket of any side in the country and are the only team without a first-class century in the campaign. It’s fair to say that some in the Worcestershire dressing room were underwhelmed by the comments about Matt Mason in the first day’s report. They pointed out that Mason’s record last season, 43 championship wickets at 27.58, compares favourably with most. And that he was more than capable of standing without help on a bus.Mason made his point quite eloquently on the pitch, too. While he lacked pace, he maintained a tight line and length and used his height to generate enough bounce to unsettle all the batsmen. Gidman and Marshall both paid the price for prodding outside the off stump as Mason utilised the uneven bounce sensibly and showed the benefit of his experience. He might easily have had a third wicket. Had Moeen, at third slip, clung on to a chance offered by Taylor when the batsman had just 50, Gloucestershire would have been 201 for 9. As it was, the tail carved out another 44 runs, with Taylor compiling his highest score of the summer. He pulled one six off Richard Jones but paid the price for making room against Alan Richardson was comprehensively bowled.Meanwhile Franklin departed to a routine outside edge, Banerjee was brilliantly (if somewhat fortuitously) caught at slip as he edged a full-blooded cut and Lewis paid the price for a flat footed drive.
