The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the itinerary of the ‘home’ series in the UAE against South Africa in October and November this year. The series will be shared between the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi and the Dubai International Cricket Stadium; the two grounds will join Sharjah, which has hosted Pakistan in the past, as Test venues in the UAE. The series will feature two Tests, five ODIs and a Twenty20 international.Cricket South Africa had agreed to the PCB’s proposal of playing a series on neutral ground, back in April. The PCB even explored the possibility of playing matches in Sharjah, but have decided to restrict it to two venues. Abu Dhabi and Dubai have hosted one-dayers and Twenty20s but never staged a Test.” I am very grateful to Dr. Mtutuzeli Nyoka (CSA president) and Gerald Majola for their understanding of our position and supporting us to make this even possible,” PCB chairman Ijaz Butt said. “I would like to especially thank the Emirates Cricket Board for their unwavering support to Pakistan Cricket.”Pakistan has not hosted an international series since the Lahore attacks in March last year, and was stripped of its rights to host the 2011 World Cup as a result of the volatile security situation in the country. The UAE, with strong links to Pakistan cricket, emerged as an alternate ‘host’ and Pakistan have played ODI series against Australia and New Zealand in Dubai and Abu Dhabi since last year. It was a bold challenge by Rory Hamilton-Brown, considering that they had lost their first two matches, and it almost paid off after Andre Nel’s second ball bounced and left Phil Jaques to have the Australian opener caught at second slip by the Surrey captain himself for the first pair of his career.Jade Dernbach bowled Daryl Mitchell soon afterwards and Surrey’s hopes were high when former England offspinner Gareth Batty broke a third-wicket stand of 54 between Moeen and Vikram Solanki and went on to remove Alexei Kervezee and Ben Smith in quick succession.Batty, who has returned to Surrey after eight seasons with Worcestershire, pinned Solanki and Smith lbw and bowled Kervezee as he tried to sweep. He should also have had Moeen caught at silly mid-off for 16 but the chance went down and Surrey paid a heavy price.Moeen found some support from Ben Scott until he was lbw to Chris Schofield and although Richard Jones and Jack Shantry fell cheaply to Usman Afzaal and Schofield respectively Alan Richardson survived the final over from Dernbach. Moeen had defied Surrey for 50 overs in scoring his 70 off 147 balls with 10 fours and a six when they shook hands on a draw with Worcestershire 170 for 8.Surrey had started the day 85 runs ahead with eight wickets in hand and looked like running into trouble when Afzaal was run out by Shantry’s direct hit from backward point, then Hamilton-Brown was stumped heaving at Moeen..Not for the first time, they were held together by Mark Ramprakash who passed 1,000 Championship runs in his eighth match on the school ground and was on course for his 110th first-class century when he slashed uncharacteristically at Imran Arif and was caught behind. He had scored 82 off 170 balls, including 11 fours and a six.Batty perished in the next over but Steven Davies added an unbeaten 69 off 88 balls with six fours and a six to his first innings century and enabled Hamilton-Brown to make his declaration at 239 for 8.

Waqar Younis, the new Pakistan coach, has hailed the appointment of allrounder Shahid Afridi as captain for the World Twenty20 starting next month in the West Indies. The PCB installed Afridi at the helm earlier this week, after initially announcing the squad for the tournament without naming a captain.”Afridi is an allrounder with a positive frame of mind who had been bowling excellently in last two years,” Waqar told . “His mere presence in the field generates a fighting spirit among the players.”Waqar takes charge during a particularly tumultuous period for Pakistan cricket – several senior players were banned two weeks ago, and there have been persistent murmurs of match-fixing and dressing-room spats. However, he remained confident of a good show in the Caribbean. “Pakistan is capable of defending its title in the presence of Afridi, Razzaq and Akmal brothers.”Pakistan have had four coaches in three years, and with this being Waqar’s first official role as head coach at any level, he acknowledged the difficulty of the task ahead for him. “The history of Pakistan cricket tells us that the coaching of the national team is no an easy task,” he said. “But someone had to do the job and I dared to accept it and I assured the nation and the Pakistan Cricket Board that I would not disappoint them.”He tried to temper the expectations of the country’s passionate fans, and said things couldn’t be changed overnight. “I understand that the people of Pakistan are mad for cricket and their sentiments are badly injured when the national team loses but I would ask them that they should curb their emotions and try to understand the circumstances before reacting.”The depth of Pakistan’s talent pool excited Waqar, who set his sights on next year’s World Cup in the subcontinent. “World Cup 2011 is the real target. وتابع: “اللاعب دائمًا ينظر لأندية القمة ومن الصعب رفض الأهلي أو الزمالك، ومرتضى منصور عمل الكثير من أجل ضم شلبي، خاصةً أن أيمن الشريعي رئيس إنبي صعب في التفاوض ولكن الصفقة تمت بنجاح”.

وواصل: “أنا وكيل مصطفى شلبي، ولا أتفاوض مع ناديين، وكان الأهلي الأقرب في البداية، وإنبي طلب من القلعة الحمراء في البداية 30 مليونًا وكان هذا الأمر صعب تحقيقه، ووضعت الإدارة 12 مليونًا وكان هناك تمسك بالتعاقد مع اللاعب ولكن صعوبة المفاوضات أفشلت الصفقة”.

Matt Prior’s role as wicketkeeper for the one-day series in Bangladesh could be under threat from the uncapped Craig Kieswetter, after England’s coach, Andy Flower, hinted that they intended to use the games as direct preparation for the World Twenty20 that gets underway in the Caribbean at the end of April.The hard-hitting Kieswetter, who only completed his England qualification last week, was not chosen to play in either of the recent Twenty20 matches against Pakistan in Dubai, despite making an immediate case for selection with a matchwinning 81 for the England Lions against the senior side in Abu Dhabi.On Tuesday in Fatullah, however, he made up for lost time by cracking an impressive 143 from 123 balls against a Bangladesh Cricket Board XI, his first appearance in full England colours. He was then handed the gloves for the second match 48 hours later, and picked up two catches in a comfortable seven-wicket win. Prior, who was asked to play as a specialist batsman, responded with a timely 64 from 57 balls, to seal the contest with 11.4 overs to spare.However, when asked after the match whether Prior was still England’s No. 1, Flower declined the opportunity to give him his unequivocal backing. “I can’t tell you that because we have a match on Sunday and that would be telling you our side,” he said. “[Kieswetter] is in the squad as a wicketkeeping batsman, so it is an option.”It was a nice gentle introduction for him in terms of keeping wicket for England, in a low-pressure environment,” Flower added. “It was also an opportunity to look at him with the gloves on, [because] I don’t know much about his cricket. And it was also an opportunity for him to get used to the side, and for the side to get used to him with the gloves on.”The situation is unfortunate for Prior, who has done little wrong since reclaiming his place as England’s limited-overs wicketkeeper, particularly with the gloves, and yet has found it hard to replicate the counterattacking approach that he has made his trademark in Tests. In 30 matches since 2008, and from a variety of positions up and down the order, he has picked up 525 runs at 27.63, with an unspectacular strike-rate of 76.41.”Today was an opportunity for him to get up front and get some time in the middle,” said Flower of Prior’s promotion to No. 3 in Fatullah. “Batting at 6 or 7 is a specialist area and he’s shown glimpses of good skill and it’s not easy to bat in that area to put in performances that consistently catch the eye and make a difference. It’s a tricky area to bat.”If Prior’s future lies in the middle order, then Kieswetter – with or without the gloves – is sure to open the batting in Bangladesh alongside the stand-in captain, Alastair Cook, and at the expense of Jonathan Trott, whose standing as a limited-overs opener has plummeted since the tour of South Africa.Last week, Flower expressed his disappointment in the starts that Trott and Joe Denly had offered England in Dubai, and he clearly hopes that Kieswetter will gather sufficient momentum in the coming weeks to take straight into the Caribbean – where he can expect to form part of the 16th opening combination that England will have used in 26 Twenty20 matches.”We don’t know about selection for the Twenty20 World Cup, but if we’re to go with him, if he had a great series against Bangladesh, it’s a gentle introduction,” said Flower. “I thought he kept nicely. Speaking to the broadcast giant (via Football Daily), the Italian reporter says that Spurs do indeed hold an interest in Kulusevski – citing both Paratici and Conte’s personal fondness for the player.

“I know that Antonio and Fabio Paratici they like Kulusevski,” he explained.

“He’s a Juventus player that Fabio got at Juventus, bought him from Atalanta, it’s not easy, but he is one of the names.”

The Verdict: Get it done?

Lauded as an ‘athletic phenomenon’ by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, we would advise Spurs to move for Kulusevski given he could plug many holes in Conte’s squad.

He is able to operate as an advanced playmaker as well as on the wings and further forward, with his best season for ex-club Parma indicating he could do a job in north London.

According to WhoScored, he averaged a very impressive 2.2 key passes per 90 over the 2019/2020 season for Parma – more than any Spurs player has managed in the Premier League this season.

Still young, Kulusevski also has plenty of room for improvement and it is believed Juve are open to selling for around €35 million-€40 million (£29.3m-£33.5m).

Indeed, he could actually come as a brilliant option for Spurs.
