Tim May believes Pakistan must do more to ensure the safety of players for next month’s Champions Trophy

Tim May, the chief executive of the global players’ union, believes Pakistan must do more to ensure the safety of players at next month’s Champions Trophy. May will form part of an ICC task force that will attempt to allay the touring fears of New Zealand in meetings on Thursday before travelling to Australia on Friday.In the Herald Sun May, who represents the Federation of International Cricketers’ Associations, praised the Pakistan Cricket Board for its efforts, but said more had to be done. And he said it was not too late to make the changes.”One of the concerns of the task force is that we haven’t been able to see enough of, let’s say, the implementation of the security forces,” May told the paper. “We need to speak to the players and governing bodies and see if they are in the same position too, if they want to see some more.”Geoff Lawson, the Pakistan coach and former Test bowler, will join May in the meetings in an effort to convince Australia and New Zealand to travel. Australia postponed Test and one-day series earlier in the year while New Zealand, along with England and South Africa, have concerns over participating in the tournament, which is due to start on September 12.”I am coming at the ICC’s request to give my personal experiences to the New Zealand and Australian players and officials,” Lawson said in the Australian. “I will be telling them why I live in Lahore and why I think it is safe.”I wouldn’t be living there if I didn’t think it was safe. I will be letting them know my straightforward and earnest views.”Australia point to the government’s travel warnings when arguing against going to Pakistan. “We strongly advise you to reconsider your need to travel to Pakistan at this time due to the very high threat of terrorist attack, sectarian violence and the unpredictable security situation,” the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s website says. “If you do decide to travel to Pakistan, you should exercise extreme caution.”While one ICC group is in the southern hemisphere, another will be travelling to England, where it will talk with English and South African officials early next week. David Morgan, the ICC president, will receive the results of the meetings on August 20.

Football.london’s Chelsea writer, Sam Inkersole, can’t see Borussia Dortmund letting Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho leave in the same transfer window.

Sancho completed his move to Manchester United last week and there has been plenty of speculation surrounding the future of striker Erling Haaland, with football.london reporting that the 21-year-old is Chelsea’s prime target this summer.

Haaland scored 41 goals in all competitions for Borussia Dortmund last season, so it’s easy to see why there is plenty of interest in his signature this summer, but Inkersole can’t see the Bundesliga outfit letting both prized assets leave in the same transfer window.

“I’m still struggling to get my head around the fact that they could sell Jadon Sancho and Haaland in the same window, I just can’t see it happening,” Inkersole told Football FanCast.

Jadon Sancho’s transfer fee was believed to be £73m and Haaland will be available for around £70m next summer, according to Sky Sports, due to a clause in his contract.

Chelsea haven’t spent any money yet in this transfer window but have made their first summer signing, as goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli joined the Blues from Fulham on a free transfer.

Flocking to Twitter, many West Ham United supporters have been in full voice after club insider ExWHUemployee’s update on exciting youngster Conor Coventry.

Coventry, who has impressed for West Ham throughout pre-season, has been tipped by a section of fans to be the Hammers’ next breakthrough academy star after Declan Rice.

Some comparisons to the England international have even been made, and given this is club legend Mark Noble’s last season in Claret and Blue, the 21-year-old could be useful to reinforce the defensive midfield position.

Manager David Moyes is fighting on the Europa League front as well as domestically for the 2021/2022 season but only has Rice and Tomas Soucek as natural options to sit in front of the back four.

ExWHUemployee (via Hammers Updates), bringing news on Coventry’s position, now claims that the starlet could in fact be allowed to go out on loan to Peterborough United.

Indeed, The Posh have submitted an offer for the midfield man and it is believed that West Ham are prepared to accept it – with the final decision resting on Coventry himself.

Discounting Manuel Lanzini, who has been utilised as a makeshift deep-lying playmaker by Moyes, it’s little wonder supporters believe Coventry should stay and fight for a senior spot this season given their lack of depth.

As a result, many fans are simply baffled that West Ham and GSB are prepared to let Coventry move away.

Em contagem regressiva para celebrar os 90 anos da inauguração de São Januário, o torcedor do Vasco deixa ao lado do deu motivo de orgulho uma certeza: a de que o “caldeirão” ferve por uma modernização completa. Desde o ano do centenário do clube, o sonho de uma ampliação na sua capacidade (hoje estipulada em 21.880 pessoas) e a possibilidade de reurbanizar os arredores do estádio já passaram pelo clube.

Em novembro de 1998, o arquiteto Sergio Dias apresentou um projeto. Além da ampliação, o estádio teria um teto semelhante ao do Stáde de France, dois telões de alta definição e camarotes. O Vasco e o banco tentaram auxílio do BNDES para as obras, que durariam 18 meses.

Tottenham defender Cameron Carter-Vickers is likely to sign for Celtic before the transfer window slams shut, according to The Daily Star.

The Hoops have been linked with a move to bring the towering centre-back to Parkhead during the current window.

American journalist Larry Henry Jr has shared three updates on the 23-year-old’s future, all of which have name-checked Celtic with an interest.

His first cited the Hoops’ interest, the second suggested the race was down to Celtic, Bournemouth and Newcastle and the third appeared to take the Cherries out of the race.

The Latest: Newcastle interest

The Daily Star’s Aaron Rodgers shared a story regarding a number of Newcastle targets on Thursday lunchtime.

Within his report, Rodgers said Carter-Vickers is wanted by the Magpies. However, he then added that the USA international is ‘likely to join Celtic’ – an interesting four-word update.

The Verdict: A risk

Tottenham are confident they will receive £5m for Carter-Vickers this summer, despite the defender having less than 12 months left on his deal, and it seems as if the Hoops could be the side to match that figure going off recent reports.

Carter-Vickers, on £20,000-a-week with Spurs, has never played Premier League football, so if Celtic do pay Tottenham’s asking price, it could be a risky move.

Ange Postecoglou has just Carl Starfelt, Stephen Welsh and Osaze Urhoghide as fit senior centre-back options at the moment following Kris Ajer’s move to Brentford, so it does appear as if another defender is needed.

Carter-Vickers, who can also play as a right-back, could be that man according to The Daily Star, so it may well be a deal to keep a close eye on over the coming weeks.

Aston Villa could get their new Gareth Barry in the form of PSG midfielder Rafinha.

What’s the story?

Having already clinched the signings of Emi Buendia and Ashley Young, Dean Smith’s side have enjoyed a decent start to the transfer window, and appear to have their eye on their next midfield signing.

According to reports in Spain,, PSG are ready to let Rafinha leave this summer in order to raise some funds for their own signings, and Villa could come in for the Brazilian.

Villa’s new Barry

Left-footed, composed on the ball, and aggressive in trying to winning it back, while Rafinha may be thought of as a typical Barcelona academy product who’s invested in a tiki-taka style of play, the Brazilian has a much-more all-round, combative presence that has a lot of similarities to how Barry liked to play.

The former England international spent 11 years in the Aston Villa senior side, playing 433 games for them, before making the switch to Manchester City, where he won the Premier League title.

The City website described him as: “A reliable, composed and tactically astute midfielder with a knack for sniffing out danger, his understated style of play made him one of the unsung heroes of that title-winning side.”

That reliability and composure is exactly what Rafinha would bring to the table at Villa.

Talking about the 27-year-old, former Barca defender Andreu Fontas once said: “Rafinha is a great player. Physically, he is a beast and, technically, he is superb.”

As per Whoscored, the midfielder boasted an impressive 90.9% pass accuracy in Ligue 1 last season (considerably better than any Villa player with more than one start), while he also averaged 2.3 tackles per match as well (only Matty Cash fared better with 2.5).

And, speaking after his performance for PSG last year, now Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, said: “Rafinha showed in this match that he was courageous. He showed that he knows how to take responsibility and he looked for attacking solutions. He had a good match.”

The £13.5m-rated play-maker could bring that same fearlessness and intensity both on and off the ball to Villa Park should Smith land his man this summer.
