Leicester City must sell Hamza Choudhury this summer as Brendan Rodgers look to build a squad capable of securing a top-four finish.

What’s the story?

According to LeicestershireLive, Newcastle United are expected to renew their interest in the 23-year-old over the upcoming transfer window after failing to secure his signature in January.

Choudhury was close to joining Steve Bruce’s side last winter, but the Foxes couldn’t secure a replacement in time and as such, they wouldn’t let the former England Under-21 international depart.

Rodgers must axe him

Leicester are expected to bolster their first-team options in the coming months after experiencing a disappointing end to a promising 2020/21 campaign.

The likes of Odsonne Edouard, Boubakary Soumare and Nuno Mendes have all been strongly linked with a move to the King Power Stadium, but Rodgers may have to sell some of his fringe players to be able to afford his top targets.

With the pandemic continuing to put a strain on many clubs’ finances, sides like Leicester will have to be clever in the market in order to compete with their more affluent competitors.

Luckily for the Midlands outfit, that is something they have excelled at over recent seasons. Stars such as Harry Maguire and Riyad Mahrez have left the current FA Cup holders for huge fees before the money generated from their sales was reinvested into the side.

While Leicester will be keen to keep hold of their most influential assets this time around, there are still several names that could generate substantial fees this summer.

Choudhury made 22 appearances last term for his boyhood club, but only four of them came as starts in the Premier League, highlighting his role within the squad.

The expected imminent arrival of Soumare from Ligue 1 champions Lille will only serve to push the youngster further down the Leicester pecking order, and the £7.2 million rated midfielder’s exit could fund a move for another ambitious target.

Rodgers will be hoping to secure a Champions League qualification spot at the third time of asking next season, and how the Northern Irish manager performs in the transfer market may just be the deciding factor.

Choudhury has not been a bad player for Leicester and some might say it would be harsh to bomb him out, but ruthless calls need to be made at times and Rodgers must make one here and cash in on the midfielder for the greater good of his squad.

Earlier in the day, Central Zone in their first innings folded up at a score of 343.Resuming at the score of 284 for 5, Central Zone lost the overnight batsman S Raza Ali (87) with the addition of only two runs. Afroj Khan (69) then took the total past 300 with the help of the tailenders while realising his fifty. He was the eighth batsman to be dismissed with the score at 333. During the 199 minute stay at the crease, Afroj faced 154 balls and found the signboards on eight occasions and cleared it twice.In response, North Zone were given a good start with openers M Bisla (44) and G Geri (15) adding 32 runs in 6.2 overs. Geri was the first to be dismissed, bowled by CS Atram. Then Dhruv Mohan (52) joined Bisla and took the score to 78 when Bisla was caught by A Deshpande off Raza Ali. This brought TT Dilip (25) to the crease and with Mohan he took the score along to 120. What’s the talk?

According to The Athletic, the Premier League champions are actively considering a move for West Ham midfielder Declan Rice this summer.

In The Athletic’s “The Radar” feature, Manchester City and Manchester United have both been named as clubs who are heavily interested in the 22-year-old. Chelsea are also thought to be in the running for the defensive midfielder, who is currently away with England at the European Championship.

Jim White claimed earlier this year that David Sullivan told him it will take more than £100m for Rice to leave West Ham this summer. The presenter told talkSPORT: “Sullivan has already told me it’s got to be north of £100m or they won’t entertain it.”

Back in March, England manager Gareth Southgate lavished praise on the “outstanding” Rice as the 50-year-old highlighted the youngster’s impressive defensive work, but admitted that he needs to work on how he builds attacks from the defensive midfield position.

Southgate told West Ham’s official website: “He’s outstanding at recovering balls in midfield. I think there are only a couple higher in the league in terms of recoveries in those midfield areas.

“I think there is still more to come with the ball, that building of attacks, that receiving from defence and transferring the ball quickly forward. We see evidence of it and we see at times he has the athleticism to drive forward with the ball as well.

Bye-bye Fernandinho

Brazil international Fernandinho is due to leave the Etihad Stadium at the end of the month and it is time to say goodbye to him and welcome in a fresh, young, replacement in the form of Rice.

The 36-year-old is in the latter stages of his career and is not able to commit to being City’s defensive midfielder for another few years at his age, whereas Rice could be their starting man for the next decade. At 22, the Englishman has almost his entire career ahead of him, and City could land a key player for years to come by bringing him in.

Begiristain, City’s director of football, could strike gold by sealing a deal for Rice and must now attempt to sign him this summer. The England ace enjoyed a terrific season in the Premier League with West Ham and has proven in recent seasons that he is a top-class defensive midfielder. The 22-year-old has averaged a WhoScored rating of 6.93 or higher in each of his last three Premier League campaigns, with a score of 7.01 for the 2020/21 season.

The £58.5m-rated beast is active on the defensive end in the Premier League. He made 3.6 tackles and interceptions per game in the season just gone for West Ham, having averaged 5.1 in the 2019/20 campaign. Fernandinho averaged 2.6 last season and 2.5 in the previous campaign.

Therefore, Rice could be a superb replacement for the Brazilian, and City must work hard to get this deal done over the summer.

Young having played shorter pitched bowling with power and precision was caught at short cover from the left-arm bowling of Xavier Doherty for 46.After lunch Horsley and Shanan Stewart put the Australian bowlers through the grinder. Horsley had great reward for a positive innings and scored his century off 132 balls with 15 fours and a six.Stewart chimed in also with some fine attacking play. They added 150 runs when Horsley was run out for 123 scored in 190 minutes off 158 balls and his innings included 18 fours and a six.Two wickets fell just before the tea break. Greg Todd hit a six off Tim Welsford and was out straight afterwards, caught at cover, and was followed immediately by Stewart, who was caught at long on, having hit 95 off 91 balls, including five huge sixes.
