Nuno Santo will be looking to stop the rot in the Premier League as his side welcome Aston Villa to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this afternoon.

The Lilywhites have suffered three successive heavy defeats, including in the north London derby last weekend, where they put in an embarrassing first-half performance – a stark contrast to the small positives against Chelsea.

A late Heung-min Son strike stopped it being a third straight 3-0 loss in the top-flight but it’s not going to get any easier with the Midlands outfit in town.

Dean Smith’s side have started the season well and head into this encounter buoyed by their win over Manchester United last time out. They too sit above Spurs in the table.

There are plenty of selection dilemmas facing the Portuguese head coach, too, so it will be interesting to see what sort of lineup he opts for today.

There could be as many as seven changes from the midweek win over Slovenian champions NS Mura in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

In defence, club captain Hugo Lloris is expected to resume his duties as Nuno’s no.1 goalkeeper, replacing Pierluigi Gollini, whilst only Sergio Reguilon and Cristian Romero remain from Thursday night.

Joe Rodon did his chances no harm but Nuno may well opt for Eric Dier, who has started five of their six league games, instead. Elsewhere, summer signing Emerson Royal is preferred to academy gem Japhet Tanganga at right-back.

Another player who impressed during the week was Oliver Skipp and he’s likely to keep hold of his spot in the engine room, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg returning over Harry Winks.

Further up the pitch, a big call has to be made.

Does Nuno stick with Dele Alli? Does Tanguy Ndombele return? Or does Giovani Lo Celso keep his place after a goal and assist only a few days ago? We’re predicting the latter, meaning the Englishman is axed from the starting XI, whilst the Frenchman remains on the bench once again.

Son and Harry Kane are two obvious starters, though they will be joined by Lucas Moura rather than Bryan Gil in the final change.

The £18m-rated Brazilian, who Dier once claimed was a “nightmare” to train against, enjoyed a positive 30 minutes against Mura, registering a late assist so he is likely to get the nod over the young Spaniard, who is still getting to grips with the Premier League.

Pelo empréstimo de Hernanes, o São Paulo não pagará nada aos chineses, arcando apenas com R% 500 mil de salário. O jogador recebe cerca de R$ 2,4 milhões mensais, mas estava sem ter oportunidades no Herbei, que aceitou liberá-lo ao Tricolor.

Hernanes vestirá a camisa 15, com a qual foi campeão brasileiro em 2008, quando acabou sendo escolhido o melhor jogador da competição. Já disse que vem para jogar de meia-atacante. O técnico Dorival Júnior, ao ser perguntado sobre o reforço, fez pomposos elogios mas disse que vai esperar ele chegar para definir de que forma utilizá-lo.

South Africa have replaced offspinner Johan Botha, who was reported for a suspect action, and fast bowler Wayne Parnell with Morne Morkel and Makhaya Ntini in their squad for the final ODI against Australia in Johannesburg

Johan Botha has described as “pretty simple” the work required to remedy his bowling action, but the controversial spinner has nonetheless been stood down from the South African side for the fifth one-day international against Australia. Under ICC guidelines, Botha was eligible for selection in the series finale at the Wanderers on Friday despite being cited for a suspect action after Monday’s match in Port Elizabeth, but team management opted against the move in a bid to shield their vice-captain from the spotlight.Botha is expected to fly to Perth in the coming days to undergo testing at the University of Western Australia. The examination will most likely be carried out by Bruce Elliott, the ICC-approved biomechanist who twice tested Botha in 2006, and comes after umpires officiating the fourth one-day international at St George’s Park queried his doosra and faster deliveries. Botha, though, believes only minor tweaking will be required to rectify his action.”We know what we want to do and we know what we need to do,” Botha told Cricinfo. “It’s pretty simple.”Graeme Smith, the South African captain, told reporters in Johannesburg that the move to stand Botha down from the fifth one-day was designed to relieve the pressure on him. Aston Villa are eyeing a move for Stoke City star Harry Souttar in the January transfer window, and Alan Hutton has given his seal of approval behind a move.

What’s the story?

Reports in recent days have suggested that Dean Smith’s side have got their eye on a new year swoop for the centre-back, and former Villa man Hutton has insisted Souttar would be a great signing for them.

He said: “I think when you look at the boys who are there, they’re all good in the air. I’ve worked with them, I know they can be physical but they like playing with the ball at their feet as well.

“I think it’s very good to have those different styles of footballers within your armoury. It gives you the option if you want. If somebody’s injured, you want to play four at the back, three at the back or something may happen, you’ve got room to manoeuvre. I think that was Dean Smith’s plan moving forward. The starting XI was very good but they needed to bolster the squad.

“I think that’s the situation that they’re in at the moment. He obviously ticks all the boxes. He’s very physical, he’s there to win the ball and it’s good to have someone like that in your backline.”

Shades of Tyrone Mings

Once described as a “Rolls-Royce” by Stoke stalwart Ryan Shawcross, the defender has been compared to a number of different big-name players, including the likes of Harry Maguire and Virgil van Dijk.

His manager at Stoke, Michael O’Neill, is clearly a big fan of the kind of modern, ball-playing centre-back that Souttar is, saying: “He’s a player blessed with great natural attributes. Obviously his height but also he’s got good game intelligence and he’s a great user of the ball as well. That’s something which I think will set him apart from the other defenders in this league.”

And, when you compare his physical attributes (he’s an inch taller than Mings at a towering 6 foot 6), as well as his key defensive stats to the Villa man, they favour well.

As per Whoscored, he averages a whopping six times the amount of tackles per game as Mings, while he also boasts more interceptions per match in the Championship too. Not only that, but Souttar also makes close to eighty passes per game on average for Stoke (29 more than Mings), and at a far better accuracy too.

The Stoke beast could bring some added physicality to Villa’s back-line and give Smith some extra depth in that centre-back role. His height, reading of the game and ability to play out from the back has got real shades of Mings.

Newcastle United are now reportedly targeting a move for Mauro Icardi after the takeover by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) consortium went through.

The Lowdown: Game time limited

The 28-year-old is currently enduring a tough time at Paris Saint-Germain, where he has seen his game-time becoming limited following the arrival of Lionel Messi from Barcelona.

Icardi has only managed to play the full 90 minutes on two separate occasions so far this season, with many of his appearances coming as a substitute.

The Latest: Icardi targeted

As per Calciomercato, Newcastle are now targeting a move for Icardi ahead of the January transfer window coming up.

However, they will reportedly face competition from both Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus for his signature.

The Verdict: Sign

As money is no object to the new owners, the Tyneside club should be looking to sign the £31.5m-rated Icardi. He should be relatively easy to acquire given his lack of game-time at PSG, and he may be a player who they would consider selling for the right price.

At 28 years of age, the Argentina international is a goalscorer in his prime, and with no fewer than 172 senior goals to his name for club and country combined, he certainly knows how to find the back of the net.

The striker would certainly be a statement signing which should hopefully persuade other global stars to follow him to St James’ Park.

O alvo não é novo, mas as negociações efetivas tiveram início nos últimos dias: trata-se de Emerson Santos, jogador de 22 anos que tem contrato com o Botafogo até 31 de dezembro, mas atuou apenas duas vezes no Campeonato Brasileiro.

Como informou o LANCE! nesta semana, o Corinthians consultou Emerson Santos e foi informado de que o desejo do jogador era atuar na Europa a partir de 2018. Porém, em vez de desistir do negócio, a diretoria decidiu investir por conta da boa avaliação da comissão técnica e do perfil apropriado: menos de 30 anos, potencial de evolução e possibilidade de contratação de baixo custo.

Mas é justamente na questão dos valores que o Corinthians encontra as maiores barreiras da negociação por Emerson Santos. O padrão salarial desejado pelo zagueiro para a próxima temporada é bem acima do que o Timão deseja pagar. Fora a necessidade de pagamento de luvas pela assinatura do contrato, o que deixa o clube receoso. Para tentar convencer o jogador a reduzir os valores, o Timão recebeu família e representantes no CT Joaquim Grava nesta semana, mas ainda não há definição sobre o caso.

أكد الناقد الرياضي النصراوي محمد شنوان العنزي أن موقف الحارس المصري محمد أبوجبل من الجانب القانوني ضعيف في شكواه ضد نادي النصر السعودي.

أعلن محمد أبو جبل حارس مرمى الزمالك السابق في بيان رسمي اليوم تقدمه بشكوى ضد نادي النصر السعودي لدى المحكمة الرياضة الدولية.

وأوضح أبو جبل في بيان رسمي أن النصر رفض إصدار تأشيرة دخوله المملكة العربية السعودية ولم يقبل بمنحه تذكرة للحاق بمعسكر الفريق في ماربيا الإسبانية.

وأشار حارس الزمالك إلى أن النصر رد عليه بأن العقد الموقع معه أصبح باطلًا عبر الخطابات المرسلة إليه من النادي السعودي.

وكتب العنزي من خلال حسابه الرسمي عبر “تويتر”: “اللاعب وقع بالفعل لـ النصر وحصل على 250 ألف يورو كمقدم للعقد، وكان سيحصل على 250 ألف يورو عند توقيع العقد النهائي، أبو جبل قدم معلومات غير صحيحة عن عقده مع الزمالك”.

وتابع: “الحارس المصري لم يستجب لطلب النصر بالالتحاق بالمعسكر، وأرسلت إدارة النصر عدة رسائل إلكترونية للاعب وللاتحاد المصري، لم يتم الرد والتجاوب معها، اللاعب تورط مع النصر وذهب لمفاوضة ناديه بدفع مبالغ، بعضها معلوم وبعضها غير معلوم، بهدف الحصول على إخلاء طرف، ودفع لناديه مليوني جنيه مصري ليهرب من الورطة”.

واختتم: “إدارة النصر بتصرف حضاري وبدعم من الأمير خالد بن فهد، أخبروا اللاعب بأن يحصل على مبلغ الـ 250 ألف يورو وكفى المؤمنين شر القتال، لكن الحارس المصري رفض وطالب بكامل عقده، لمدة 3 سنوات رغم أن موقفه ضعيف، موقف النصر سليم جدًا، وسوف يتم استرداد الـ250 ألف يورو قيمة مقدم العقد”.

يذكر أن أبوجبل شارك مع الزمالك في 21 مباراة في الموسم الحالي من بينها 14 لقاء في الدوري المصري.

England’s national selector Geoff Miller has called for a quick resolution to the England coaching search to allow him to commence planning for the hectic season ahead.Miller will name his first Test squad of the season, to face West Indies at Lord’s, on April 18. It will be a larger assembly of players than usual, resembling more of a touring squad, partly because a number of key members of the England team are involved in the Indian Premier League.Andy Flower, the interim coach, will advise on the squad selection even though he has not been confirmed as England’s full-time director of cricket. Following a winter of distractions, Miller implored the ECB to make a swift coaching appointment to restore a degree of stability to the national squad.”I would very much like it to be as soon as possible, personally, because it makes my job far easier,” Miller told reporters at Lord’s. “I can get on making decisions with him about what we’re going to do this summer.”Miller was at Lord’s with Flower – who is the frontrunner to become the director of cricket – partly so the pair could debrief about the recently completed West Indies tour, and also to watch fringe players in the MCC side hoping to push their claims for national selection.
