Man Utd: Fans react to Jesse Lingard post

Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard posted a picture in West Ham colours on his Instagram story recently.

A number of Red Devils fans have hit out at the 29-year-old as a result, with the player wanted back at the London Stadium in a possible January switch.

Lingard is yet to feature under Ralf Rangnick in the Premier League and has made just two starts all season. The Englishman is out of contract at the end of the campaign, meaning that he could technically pen pre-contract terms now with a club outside of England ahead of a free transfer in the summer.

However, the Hammers are still interested in Lingard, who relayed a Premier League post on his Instagram story alongside Declan Rice, Pablo Fornals and Tomas Soucek from when he was on loan with the east London club last season.

United fans react

The United Stand shared the screenshot of Lingard’s social media post on Twitter. Here is what these United supporters had to say in reply, with many not pleased and one describing it as ‘disrespectful’ to his current club.

Indeed, it is not the first time that the 29-year-old has enraged some of the Old Trafford fan base over his social media antics, and given his inactivity this season, some supporters feel that it is time for him to be moved on.

Bielsa suffers fresh Leeds injury blow

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has been dealt another frustrating injury blow this week…

What’s the latest?

Ahead of their FA Cup third-round clash with Premier League rivals West Ham United this afternoon, young striker Joe Gelhardt suffered an ankle injury during training on Thursday and is now expected to be out for three weeks.

“Marcelo Bielsa talking at his pre-West Ham presser – Joe Gelhardt is out. Injured [his] ankle in training yesterday and is out for three weeks. [Tyler] Roberts also out for similar period. Rodrigo not ready but [Patrick] Bamford likely to be involved on Sunday,” claimed The Athletic’s Phil Hay on Twitter.

“[Kalvin] Phillips, [Liam] Cooper, [Jamie] Shackleton, [Charlie] Cresswell and [Pascal] Struijk all still absent too.”

Another big setback

Just when will it stop?

The Yorkshire giants seemingly get a new injury every single week and it’s seriously stalling their progress under Bielsa.

Over the festive period, the 66-year-old head coach was missing as many as nine first-team players as his Whites side were demolished by the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal. It had gotten so bad that a 15-year-old – Archie Gray – was named on the bench.

Some of those absent have since made a return, helping United to a very crucial win over Burnley last weekend – Daniel James and Jack Harrison both found themselves on the scoresheet after a stint on the treatment table.

However, this latest blow puts pressure on Bielsa as he now has an important call to make upfront.

Patrick Bamford is likely to return from injury, having missed 15 of their last 16 league games but he is surely not ready to put in a full 90-minute shift just yet – though, he is the only striker available, leaving the Argentinian with a tough decision.

‘Patrick Bamford, at least, is expected to be available to play against the Hammers, but a 90 or even 120-minute performance is not only likely to be beyond him, it would be neglectful of Leeds to ask it,’ wrote Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth ahead of today’s encounter.

Gelhardt may have been in line to start down at the London Stadium this afternoon and as a player that supporters have already taken to, it will be a big blow to not see him in action today.

The young fan-favourite has already scored and provided three assists from his seven top-flight cameos this campaign and is clearly admired by Bielsa, too.

“He’s like a human wrecking ball. I like him, he’s really exciting. He’s fast, he’s aggressive, he gets on the ball, he takes people on. Once he gets into the box, he loves it. That’s where he can do most of his damage,” the manager told Sky Sports.

Therefore, his absence is merely another gutting setback to Bielsa, the squad and the fanbase, The 66-year-old must getting a little more worried as each day passes with his team picking up so many injuries this season.

AND in other news, Bielsa must ruthlessly axe Leeds’ “shocking” £47k-p/w passenger, he’s not good enough…

Martin Crowe on board as batting advisor

Martin Crowe will focus on helping New Zealand’s batsmen play longer innings in Tests•Bangalore Royal Challengers

Martin Crowe, the former New Zealand captain, will assist the new national coach Mark Greatbatch as a batting advisor to some leading players, with a particular focus on Test cricket. Crowe has already been working with batsmen such as Ross Taylor and Tim McIntosh as part of a programme in which players choose their own mentors.”It’s nice to be asked, finally,” Crowe told . “It’s only for Test matches and getting players up for Test matches, including Ross Taylor and Tim McIntosh. Mark will guide me where he feels I can be of use. It’s not an appointment as such, but in my spare time away from the Rugby Channel I will do the odd bit helping our guys prepare for Tests.”Greatbatch was pleased to have Crowe’s services. “We’ve got an initial focus on the longer form of the game, which we need to do if we’re going to get our Test ranking up. Martin will be doing some hard yakka, talking about the game, talking about game-plans and goal-setting.”Although it’s an informal role, Crowe said he would focus on training the batsmen to stay in for longer periods of time. “You have to be technically aware of what you need to do to stay in – that’s the key to batting in Test matches, staying in, which means eradicating ways of getting out, delaying your dismissal for as long as possible.”He was also in favour of a set-up that gave the captain more power, such as the one in New Zealand where Daniel Vettori plays a central role in the functioning of the team. “I’m a big believer that the captain has to be driving things,” Crowe said. “We’ve lost half a generation of Test players, particularly in the batting area, because the coach [John Bracewell] was everything. That’s not the way cricket is designed.”What they are doing now is just an open, transparent way to do things. The captain has to be accountable and has to bring out the best in his players on the field and Dan has a good grasp of that. It’s just that over the past few years we’d got used to the coach driving everything. Paddy [Greatbatch] is a big believer in working behind the scenes because that was how he was brought up, so this set-up’s got a good feeling to me.”

Australia trounce New Zealand by 115 runs

Australia began their Rose Bowl defence in the best possible way by demolishing New Zealand by 115 runs at the Adelaide Oval. Rachael Haynes and Alex Blackwell set up a strong total of 241 with half-centuries before Lisa Sthalekar ran through the New Zealand middle order and the visitors collapsed for 126, which confirmed the second-greatest run margin ever between the two teams.A double-figure total loomed for New Zealand when they slumped to 7 for 60 following the third of Sthalekar’s wickets but Katey Martin and Sophie Devine staged a minor recovery. Despite Martin’s 35, the damage was done and they sputtered out in the 37th over when Ellyse Perry’s second wicket ended the match.Having been sent in, Australia were given a solid platform thanks to a 102-run opening stand from Shelley Nitschke (35) and Haynes. In her second one-day international, Haynes top scored with 56 and when she departed, the captain Blackwell took up the fight with 51, which ended a lean patch in which she failed to reach double figures in her previous five innings. The debutant teenage wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy made a useful contribution with 21 from 11 deliveries before the Australians were dismissed in the 48th over. But early wickets to Perry and Sarah Andrews, followed by Sthalekar’s strikes, meant Australia’s total was never in serious danger. The teams meet again in Adelaide on Thursday before heading to Melbourne for the remaining three matches in the series. Australia hold the Rose Bowl after last summer’s drawn series in New Zealand, prior to which the Australians had a win also in New Zealand in 2007-08.

Di Marzio shares Kulusevski to Spurs news

Speaking live on air to Sky Sports (via Football Daily), reliable transfer journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has shared some Tottenham Hotspur transfer news involving Juventus forward Dejan Kulusevski.

The Lowdown: Spurs eye Kulusevski…

According to numerous reports out of Italy, both transfer chief Fabio Paratici and Spurs boss Antonio Conte are big admirers of the Sweden international as they target a move.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/spurs-latest-updates-5/” title=”Spurs latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

TUTTOmercatoWEB say that the two Lilywhites figures see Kulusevski as a ‘gem’ with real potential as he enters Tottenham’s transfer target list.

Meanwhile, other reports suggest that Paratici could take him to Tottenham as Conte personally green lights a move for the 21-year-old (La Gazzetta dello Sport).

Now, sharing what he knows, Di Marzio has made a claim live on Sky.

The Latest: Di Marzio makes Kulusevski claim…

Speaking to the broadcast giant (via Football Daily), the Italian reporter says that Spurs do indeed hold an interest in Kulusevski – citing both Paratici and Conte’s personal fondness for the player.

“I know that Antonio and Fabio Paratici they like Kulusevski,” he explained.

“He’s a Juventus player that Fabio got at Juventus, bought him from Atalanta, it’s not easy, but he is one of the names.”

The Verdict: Get it done?

Lauded as an ‘athletic phenomenon’ by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, we would advise Spurs to move for Kulusevski given he could plug many holes in Conte’s squad.

He is able to operate as an advanced playmaker as well as on the wings and further forward, with his best season for ex-club Parma indicating he could do a job in north London.

According to WhoScored, he averaged a very impressive 2.2 key passes per 90 over the 2019/2020 season for Parma – more than any Spurs player has managed in the Premier League this season.

Still young, Kulusevski also has plenty of room for improvement and it is believed Juve are open to selling for around €35 million-€40 million (£29.3m-£33.5m).

Indeed, he could actually come as a brilliant option for Spurs.
