O que me dá confiança é a entrega e a dedicação desses jogadores.

– Tivemos dificuldades no início do jogo. Tivemos seis finalizações dentro do gol.

SC to hear IPL corruption case on March 25

The Supreme Court has deferred to March 25 the hearing on the case relating to corruption in the IPL, including arguments over the findings of the Mudgal Commission report, which was submitted to the court on February 10

Ugra: ‘Chennai Super Kings more equal than others’

The Supreme Court has deferred to March 25 the hearing on the case relating to corruption in the IPL, including arguments over the findings of the Mudgal Commission report, which was submitted to the court on February 10.The BCCI, one of the respondents in the case, had requested the court to keep to itself the contents of a sealed envelope handed over by the Mudgal committee to the two-judge bench of AK Patnaik and JS Khehar. The report said the committee had come across “many allegations of sporting fraud” and had forwarded the allegations in the sealed envelope – to be opened and read only by the judges – “in view of the sensitive nature of the information being provided”.The BCCI’s submission was that the court not divulge the contents of the envelope as such a step could potentially cause “damage to the “reputation” of cricketers and the BCCI.The Mudgal Commission was appointed to conduct an inquiry into IPL corruption allegations, some of which involve Gurunath Meiyappan•Hindustan Times

“It is most humbly submitted that the material contained in the sealed cover remain with the Hon’ble Court and not be released to the parties,” the BCCI’s submission said.”Speculative and baseless charges against leading cricketers have already been made by unscrupulous news channels under the guise of “Sting Operations”. Speculation is rife that the sealed cover contains names of some current member of the National Team. The Hon’ble Court would kindly take steps to staunch any further damage to the image under reputation of innocent cricketers and the BCCI by passing appropriate orders and thereby render justice,” the BCCI said.In the 33-page response, the BCCI agreed with the most of the recommendations made by the Mudgal committee. There were two notable objections: One, that the IPL be run as a standalone commercial entity with a governing body formed by franchise representatives, BCCI members, broadcasters and independent professional directors. The BCCI disagreed, saying it was not prudent to have members on the governing body who were not part of the BCCI and who may have “representative interests other than the aims and objectives of the BCCI”.
Another important recommendation it rejected was to avoid employment of players by the companies owning the franchises they played for.The three-member committee, led by former High Court judge Mukul Mudgal, concluded that Gurunath Meiyappan, son-in-law of N Srinivasan, BCCI president and owner of Chennai Super Kings, had indulged in betting and passing information during matches in last year’s IPL as alleged. The inquiry panel also said that Meiyappan was actually part of the Super Kings franchise at the time and not just an “enthusiast” as claimed by Srinivasan. The panel also pulled up Raj Kundra, a co-owner in the Rajasthan Royals franchise, for “resorting to” placing bets through a bookie, who had made statements to a Delhi court earlier.Last July, a two-member BCCI-appointed panel comprising a pair of retired judges (T Jayaram Chouta and R Balasubramanian) had found “no evidence of any wrongdoing” on the part of Gurunath and Kundra. However, the Mudgal panel pointed out that the question of whether or not Gurunath had been involved in match-fixing and spot-fixing “not been investigated thoroughly” by the anti-corruption units of the ICC and the BCCI or the Crime Branch Criminal Investigation Department of the Chennai police, “even though some information was available for such an investigation to be conducted.”Gurunath had already admitted to betting in his statement to the Mumbai Police, which had originally arrested him last year. His recorded statement was part of the Mumbai Police chargesheet. The audiotapes have not been submitted to the court yet because they have gone for forensic testing. The other two members of the Mudgal panel are additional solicitor general L Nageswara Rao and Assam Cricket Association member Nilay Dutta. The panel was set up by the Supreme Court in October 2013 to conduct an independent inquiry into the allegations of corruption against Gurunath, the Super Kings team owner India Cements, and Rajasthan Royals team owner Jaipur IPL Cricket Private Ltd, as well as with the larger mandate of allegations around betting and spot-fixing in IPL matches and the involvement of players. The case dates back to last June when the Cricket Association of Bihar secretary Aditya Verma raised charges of conflict of interest in the formation of BCCI’s two-member inquiry panel. A Bombay High Court ruling later termed the probe panel “illegal”. The BCCI and the CAB filed petitions in the Supreme Court against this order, with the CAB contending that the Bombay High Court could have suggested a fresh mechanism to look into the corruption allegations.Story updated on March 7 to reflect SC’s decision to defer the hearing

Can't disrupt world cricket for own interests – IPL COO

Sundar Raman, the IPL’s COO, has said India will have to accommodate the interests of other countries while planning its international schedule as the BCCI cannot “disrupt world cricket” to protect its own interests

‘If we admit to mistakes, we’ll get better’ – Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar, the interim BCCI chief who is overseeing the IPL, wants the board to become more transparent in its workings through frequent interactions with the public via the media. The former India captain, who was asked by the Supreme Court to take over the position last month, said the process would help the board deal with its mistakes and bring in accountability.
“I am hoping the BCCI will become more open,” Gavaskar told journalists on Monday. “Like, maybe at least for the IPL, we are trying to make it open and it will carry on for the rest of the BCCI where there will be healthy discussions where people can speak freely and fearlessly, and involve everyone in the decision making process. We will make mistakes, mistakes have been made, but if we admit to mistakes, then we’ll get better.
“This is not only to inform people of what’s been happening but also to get feedback on things that maybe we can do better. We are hoping to do this regularly for the next month and maybe beyond. It’s something new for the BCCI but I hope it will be a regular feature so that you can form your own judgment and then do as you see fit.
“I very strongly feel that there are four major stakeholders – biggest is the fan, the players, the media and the administrators, and the sponsors as well. If all of us work together, we will be able to take the game forward. Not just Indian cricket, but world cricket.”

Sundar Raman, the IPL’s chief operating officer, has said India will have to accommodate the interests of other countries while planning its international schedule as the BCCI cannot “disrupt world cricket” to protect its own interests. The scheduling of the international calendar has become an important issue after an ICC revamp proposed by the BCCI, ECB and Cricket Australia, suggested that the Future Tours Program (FTP) system be replaced with bilateral agreements between boards. Raman formed part of the “working group”, along with officials from Cricket Australia and the ECB, behind the ICC’s financial and administrative restructuring and he told a media gathering that the focus was on “reinventing” the FTP.”If India say, ‘forget everything, we will play at home December-January-February’, my exaggerated view is that world cricket will collapse,” Raman said. “Australia will not have a Boxing Day Test, South Africa will not have a season, Sri Lanka will not have a Test. So you are treading on a territory … India has to be accommodative.”We can’t disrupt world cricket so much at the cost of our own interest. Truth is, Australia don’t tour for more than four weeks at a time except for the Ashes. India is happy to go on long tours. We want to have minimum two home seasons every year, but it’s tough with the different weather conditions.”We are trying to figure the best way out so that all 26 stadiums in India get a game. It’s got to have Tests and one-dayers every year and we are planning in such a way that we prepare better for big events. Before the World T20, we’ll play more T20s. Before the World Cup, we’ll play more ODIs. We’re trying to reinvent the whole FTP. And you know every year there’s IPL and Champions League T20.”Raman also praised the “robust” IPL model despite the controversies surrounding the league. Brand IPL was hit last year after three Rajasthan Royals cricketers and Gurunath Meiyappen, the team principal of the Chennai Super Kings, were arrested on allegations of betting and spot-fixing.A Supreme Court-ordered probe, conducted by the Justice Mukul Mudgal panel, stated that Meiyappan was found to have indulged in betting and passing on information, and in subsequent hearings, the court asked N Srinivasan to step down to ensure a free and fair investigation into corruption in the IPL. Srinivasan’s reluctance to resign as BCCI president and act against Super Kings, a team owned by his company India Cements, had put the tournament under a cloud, especially when the first phase was moved to the United Arab Emirates. The conduct of the event in the UAE has, however, led Sunil Gavaskar, the court-appointed BCCI interim president for the event, to reveal that the BCCI is considering hosting the Champions League T20 in UAE later this year.”The success of the IPL here will make the BCCI look at this in a much different way than it has in the past,” Gavaskar said. “Champions League here is definitely on the back of our minds.”Following the exit of the Sahara Pune Warriors franchise last year, the IPL returned to an eight-team format, which had been successful in the first three years of the tournament. Ranjib Biswal, the IPL chairman, said the BCCI has decided not to add any more franchises at least until 2017. The 2011 edition of the IPL featured ten teams, with two franchises drafted in, while the last two editions saw nine teams competing in the league after the Kochi Tuskers franchise was ousted on technical grounds. The IPL governing council will take stock of the UAE leg which ends on April 30, Gavaskar said, at a May 3 meeting in Mumbai. Deepak Parekh, a leading banker, was named advisor to the IPL and he is expected to give his feedback on the matches he has seen so far, and present his suggestions on improving the IPL brand.

Narine's dilemma: IPL final or West Indies camp?

West Indies’ offspinner Sunil Narine is faced with a selection dilemma as he may be disqualified from the West Indies squad for the first Test if he chooses to play the IPL final for Kolkata Knight Riders

Tony Cozier30-May-2014

Sunil Narine may lose his spot in the team for the first Test if he opts to play the IPL final•BCCI

Sunil Narine has suddenly found himself between a rock and a hard place. If the spinner remains in India to play for Kolkata Knight Riders in Sunday’s IPL 2014 final, as he wants to, he will miss the West Indies Cricket Board’s [WICB] June 1 deadline for joining the preparatory camp for the imminent home series against New Zealand, disqualifying him from selection.”It is his decision,” WICB’s chief executive officer Michael Muirhead said on Friday. “The cut-off date for joining the camp was moved forward from May 22 to June 1 specifically to allow those players involved in the IPL the opportunity for more matches. Anyone who is in breach won’t be considered for selection.”He indicated that if Narine misses the deadline, he would be unavailable for the first Test in Kingston between June 8 and 12; Narine would remain in the chosen squad of 15 and be eligible for the remainder of the series.Speaking by telephone from his Kolkata office yesterday, Knight Riders’ chief executive officer Venky Mysore spoke on Narine’s behalf.”This is in no way an act of defiance by Sunil,” Mysore said. “He is seeking the board’s flexibility for a couple of days leeway so that he can turn out for Knight Riders on Sunday.”He has told us that he came to do a job and wants to see it through to its conclusion. He also wants to represent West Indies against New Zealand. You can understand the quandary that he is in.”Mysore said the IPL management had put Narine’s case to the WICB. Narine has also been in touch with Wavell Hinds, president and chief executive of the West Indies Players Association (WIPA).There was a similar situation prior to West Indies’ tour of England in 2009.Chris Gayle, then captain, applied for an extension to play one more match for his franchise team in the IPL, held that year in South Africa. The WICB acceded to the request and Gayle arrived in London two days before the Lord’s Test, leading to widespread criticism of the decision. The WICB has now taken its position following its acceptance of the “West Indies First” policy proposed by director of cricket, Richard Pybus, last March. This lists the principle of the “prioritisation of Test cricket as the pinnacle of West Indies cricket and its protection through priority team selection and strategic scheduling”.Narine is one of six players with WICB Grade A contracts for 2014, each worth US$120,000; Dwayne Bravo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Chris Gayle, Darren Sammy and Marlon Samuels are the others.”For West Indies cricket to thrive and to grow, they (the players) have to make themselves available,” Muirhead said at the time. “At the same time, we don’t want to limit the amount or prevent their opportunities to earn.”He added then that there were no scheduled matches or tours in 2014 during the period of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) or the Indian Premier League (IPL). The IPL final has thrown a spanner into the works.Muirhead said Narine and Gayle, who travelled to Germany from his IPL stint with Royal Challengers Bangalore for treatment on his back injury, had advised the WICB on May 24 that they would be back by June 1.That changed for Narine in the past two weeks as Knight Riders, at one point seemingly out of contention, reeled off eight consecutive victories to qualify for the final.”We are not victimizing him in any way,” Muirhead stated. “Like all the players, he was aware of the stipulation under the NOC (No Objection Clause) well in advance.”The NOC released West Indies players for the IPL with the stipulation that they would be available no later than one week before a Test series. The camp, currently held in Barbados, wraps up on June 3. It is, according to Muirhead, the opportunity for “meaningful practice and developing the team ethic”.Predictably, Mysore acknowledged that Knight Riders wanted Narine to stay and play the final.”He has been a vital cog in our team since he joined us in 2012,” Mysore said. “He is the leading wicket-taker in IPL 2014 with 20 wickets but, just as importantly, he has been a tremendous team man.”Mysore said the franchise, owned by Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan, has undertaken to fly Narine back by the fastest available flights should the WICB alter its position. He estimated that he could join the West Indies squad by June 3, five days before the first Test.Such a scenario now seems unlikely.Without Narine, West Indies would be short of a key bowler who has made his reputation principally in the shorter versions of the game (he is ranked No.3 in ODIs and No.2 in T20 Internationals by the ICC), but who has 18 of his 23 Test wickets against New Zealand, in two matches in the Caribbean in 2012 and one in New Zealand last December.Off-spinner Shane Shillingford, returning from his second clearance following suspension for an illegal delivery, and left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn, who played the last of his 17 Tests almost three-and-a-half years ago, are the other spinners in the squad.
