Wolves fans critical of Semedo vs Watford

Wolverhampton Wanderers fans were left lamenting a pair of misses from Nelson Semedo in their clash with Watford on Saturday afternoon.

Wolves came into the game without a point on the board, having lost each of their first three Premier League fixtures by a goal to nil.

Watford, meanwhile, were looking to return to winning ways on home turf after following-up their opening-day victory against Aston Villa with back-to-back defeats at Brighton and Spurs.

Recapping Semedo’s afternoon at Vicarage Road

Bruno Lage selected Semedo at right wing-back for the third consecutive match, with Marcal, who was superb, slotting in on the other side.

The Portuguese ace however had the chance to put the visitors ahead in first-half stoppage time after he was set through by right-winger Francisco Trincao, but he shot straight at Daniel Bachmann.

And then, just after the hour mark, he was in again, only to fire wide of the post.

Semedo also lost six of his ten ground duels, failed to complete a dribble and conceded possession 14 times in total, contributing to a team-low SofaScore rating of 6.2.

Mercifully for Wolves, an own-goal from Francisco Sierralta and a debut strike from Hwang Hee-chan were enough to earn their three points.

These Wolves fans bemoaned Semedo misses

“Remember when fans said Doherty wasn’t good enough after getting 15 goals/assists and now Semedo has missed another 1 on 1. We are actually cursed. How have we missed another”

England players 'will not be forced to do anything'

England’s cricketers will not be forced to return to India for the two-Test series between the two countries, Hugh Morris, the ECB’s managing director for England cricket, said as the squad arrived back in London

England’s cricketers will not be forced to return to India for the two-Test series, Hugh Morris, the ECB’s managing director for England cricket, said as the squad arrived back in London on Saturday evening. In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, Morris said the England team was committed to returning to India if it was “safe and secure” to do so. A decision on the fate of the series could be made in two days’ time with Morris adding that the latest safety briefing would be compiled over the next 48 hours. He admitted they were working to a “very short timescale” with the first Test still scheduled to start in Ahmedabad on December 11.”I don’t think we’d force anybody to do anything,” Morris told reporters at Heathrow Airport. “We’ve returned to assess the safety and security situation in India [and] the remainder of the tour of India. We have a team of people that we rely on for our safety and security information. They’re pulling that information together over the next 24 to 48 hours and, clearly, we’ll assess that information when we have it.”Clearly, we are committed to going back and playing in a Test series if it is safe to do so,” he said. “Would I go back? If it was safe and secure, absolutely.”Even as Morris was facing the media, though, rumours were circulating that some players had already made up their minds. A report in the Sunday Telegraph claimed that Steve Harmison and Andrew Flintoff were set to announce they would not return for the Tests because of pressure from their families, as well as another unnamed bowler, believed to be James Anderson, whose wife is pregnant. The one warm-up match is due to start on Friday, meaning England realistically have to be flying back to India by Wednesday at the latest if they want to make that fixture. An option to give extra breathing space and allow a few more days to assess the situation in India would be to prepare in either Dubai or Abu Dhabi. “That’s an option we are actively looking at but the information we get in the next 48 hours will determine the programme leading into the first Test,” Morris said.Despite assurances that England would return if it was safe, Morris did add that there was unease within the England camp having watched graphic footage of the developments on TV. The team had stayed at one of the affected hotels, the Taj Mahal, at the start of the tour and were due there again on December 16.”Everybody has been affected by the terrible goings-on in Mumbai,” Morris said. “It has affected the players as much as anybody. There’s a degree of nervousness, there’s no doubt about that. That’s only natural. It’s affected everybody.”His thoughts were echoed by Kevin Pietersen, writing in his column. “I’m still shaking from the terrorist atrocities in Mumbai,” he said. “We were 800 miles from the attack, but suddenly we felt very vulnerable, especially as we had stayed at the targeted Taj Mahal Hotel just two weeks ago.”But Pietersen said he would return for the Tests if the team’s security advisor Reg Dickason gave the go-ahead. “He [Dickason] has been around the block and I trust his judgement 100%. If he says it is safe to go back to India for the first Test in 11 days, then you can count me in.”The BCCI shifted the second Test from Mumbai to the southern city of Chennai; the game is scheduled to be played from December 19 to 23.

Blades confirm Robin Olsen signing

Sheffield United have confirmed Robin Olsen’s arrival at Bramall Lane.

What’s the latest?

In a statement posted on the Sheffield United website, the Blades revealed that the AS Roma goalkeeper had completed his switch to the Championship side, with the 31-year-old linking up with Slavisa Jokanovic’s side on a season-long loan deal.

The statement went on to claim that, following Aaron Ramsdale’s move to Arsenal earlier this summer, United have filled the 23-year-old’s gloves with an established international ‘keeper in the form of Olsen.

Jokanovic will be buzzing

While losing the services of Ramsdale will have undoubtedly come as a blow to Jokanovic, who himself claimed that he had no intention of parting with the England international this summer, the fact that the club have managed to replace the departed shot-stopper with a ‘keeper as talented as Olsen is sure to have left the 53-year-old manager buzzing.

Indeed, the £14k-per-week man highly impressed over his seven Premier League appearances while on loan at Everton last season, keeping two clean sheets, as well as conceding an average of just 1.3 goals and making three saves per game.

These returns saw the man Alexander Isak dubbed an “incredible” goalkeeper earn a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.87, ranking him as the Toffees’ 12th-best performer in the top flight.

The £2.7m-rated Olsen also impressed over his four appearances for Sweden at Euro 2020 this summer, keeping two clean sheets and making an average of 2.8 saves per match for his country – seeing him earn an average SofaScore match rating of 7.05.

As such, the addition of the 48-cap shot-stopper certainly looks to be something of a coup for Sheffield United, with his last-minute arrival undoubtedly providing Jokanovic with a substantial boost at a time the Serbian manager desperately needs one – with his side currently sitting in 23rd place in the Championship standings.

Richards powers Leeward Islands to big win

Barbados, Leeward Islands and hosts Guyana managed wins in the opening round of matches in the WICB Cup

Cricinfo staff14-Nov-2008A century from Austin Richards set up an emphatic 184-run victory for Leeward Islands over Canada at the Everest Cricket Club Ground in Guyana. Leewards were put in by Canada and Richards joined with his captain Runako Morton in a 174-run second-wicket partnership before combing with Omari Banks later on. Banks finished unbeaten on 75 and hit eight fours and three sixes, while Richards was bowled by Karun Jethi for a whirlwind 141 from 113 balls, comprising 14 fours and five sixes. Canada never looked in control during the chase and apart from Qaiser Ali (52) and captain Sunil Dhaniram (44) there were no other innings of note. Canada were restricted to 183 for 7 off 50 overs – falling one run short of denying the Leewards an extra bonus point.Ryan Hinds’ all-round show helped Barbados beat defending champions Jamaica by 21 runs at the Bourda. Dwayne Smith top scored with 64 from 47 balls and together with Hinds (56) took Barbados to 249 in the 50 overs. Pedro Collins and Hinds then picked up three wickets apiece to hand Barbados four points. Barbados captain Jason Haynes, electing to bat, put on 70 runs with Hinds for the first wicket before Lorenzo Ingram dismissed him for 30. Hinds struck seven fours and one six in his 88-ball innings, but it was Smith’s lusty hitting, which included five fours and three sixes, that took Barbados near 250 after they were wobbling at 189 for 5. Jamaica suffered an early blow during the reply, when Brenton Parchment was adjudged lbw to Collins for a duck in the third over, but Horace Miller and David Bernard put on 66 for the second wicket to put them back on track. But Hinds removed them both and Danza Hyatt was run out soon after. Captain Tamar Lambert looked to resurrect the innings but the steady fall of wickets meant an uphill struggle as Jamaica were bowled out for 228.A superb century from Romel Currency was not enough to hand Combined Campuses and Colleges a win over Guyana at the Providence Stadium, as the hosts won by four wickets. After his captain chose to bat, Currency put on 55 with Ramnarine Chattergoon for the opening wicket. But Combined Campuses and Colleges were soon reduced to 58 for 3 as captain Simon Jackson and Floyd Reifer fell in quick succession. But Currency’s 133-run fourth-wicket stand with Kurt Wilkinson, who contributed a solid 76 from 98 balls, took the score to 250. Currency hit six fours and a six as he finished on 102. The early fall of Rajindra Chandrika’s wicket during the chase did not deter Chris Barnwell and Narsingh Deonarine as they put on 112 runs for the second wicket. Deonarine made full use of the friendly batting pitch to hit an attractive 67, bringing up his fifty off 46 balls. Barnwell provided able support with 51. But even after he was caught by Chattergoon off Kavesh Kantasingh, Assad Fudadin stroked an unbeaten 57 to seal the win for Guyana with nine deliveries to spare.

É a casa do Flamengo, para a torcida ficar à vontade e ajudar o time.

Traore can complete Spurs’ deadline day

Tottenham Hotspur could end deadline day with a bang if they manage to seal a move for mooted target Adama Traore…

What’s the word?

Earlier in the day, Football Insider reported that super-agent Jorge Mendes was playing a huge role in trying to bring the Spanish winger to north London before tonight’s 11pm deadline.

It’s thought that negotiations over various types of structured deals have taken place after Wolves rebuffed a loan bid from Spurs, though they are willing to listen to further offers.

Since then, football.london’s Alasdair Gold has played down their chances of getting it over the line in time.

“Wolves are standing firm at the moment. Spurs aren’t currently hopeful of anything happening for him today. Perhaps it’s one to look at again in the future as Nuno [Santo] and [Fabio] Paratici do love him,” he revealed in a Q&A with supporters.

It’s thought that the Midlands outfit value him in the region of £40m.

Get it done!

If Spurs can complete a move for Traore before 11pm, then it would be one hell of a way to end the transfer window.

Nuno does have plenty of options in the wide department but perhaps not enough on the right-hand side of midfield, where the Spanish winger has been a regular threat for Wolves, both now and under the Portuguese in recent times.

Last season, no player in the entire top-flight managed as many dribbles per game (4.1) as Traore, whilst he was fouled a whopping 2.3 times per match (third-highest in the division).

It’s no wonder Jurgen Klopp once lauded him as “unplayable” after his Liverpool side had to combat his explosive pace and physicality.

Similarly, BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand has previously described the 5 foot 10 winger as a “machine,” adding: “He’s powerful and quick and this season he has been scaring defenders. You see teams now trying to double up against him because of the threat he possesses.”

None of Spurs’ current wide options have matched Traore’s dribbling ability so far this season – for example, Nuno’s current first-choice on the right, Steven Bergwijn, has averaged only 1.3 dribbles per game, via WhoScored.

He would be a clear upgrade, as evident above, and one who would surely leave the fanbase excited. If Spurs want to end the window with a bang, then Paratici and co must look to sanction this move.
