Rangers fans livid at Cup news

Many Glasgow Rangers fans are far from happy after the kick-off time for their Scottish Cup quarter-final was revealed.

The Gers are through to the last eight following their 2-0 victory over Celtic at Ibrox on Sunday in the fourth round. Steven Davis opened the scoring with a fantastic overhead kick before a Jonjoe Kenny own goal doubled the lead and, although Odsonne Edouard had a penalty saved by Allan McGregor, the Gers were able to see out the match relatively comfortably.

The 55-time Scottish champions will now face St Johnstone as they continue their quest to complete a domestic double, and it has now been revealed that the match will take place at 6.30pm on Sunday evening, which has not gone down well with some fans.

The news was shared by the Gers’ official Twitter account, and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters. These fans took to the social media platform to share their thoughts, with one branding the Sunday evening kick-off arrangement as “disgusting”.

Moyes must start West Ham’s Benrahma

David Moyes must unleash Said Benrahma when West Ham United host Chelsea on Saturday after confirming that Arthur Masuaku and Aaron Cresswell will be unavailable.

Benrahma has not started either of the Hammers’ last three Premier League fixtures and played just 33 minutes over wins against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City and last weekend’s 3-2 defeat to Newcastle United.

Neither Cresswell nor Masuaku were available at St. James’ Park due to hamstring injuries, although the latter has been ruled out of the Blues’ visit to the London Stadium due to fluid on his knee.

Irons product Ben Johnson was fielded at full-back against Newcastle as part of a five-man defence, but Moyes faces a tactical shift this Saturday after Craig Dawson was sent off for two yellow card offences in 36 minutes on Tyneside.

Cresswell has an outside chance of returning to the line-up at home to Chelsea, otherwise leaving Fabian Balbuena as Moyes’ only available option to replace Dawson without altering the system favoured for West Ham’s last two fixtures.

“I’m hoping that somewhere along the line we can get Micky [Antonio], Declan [Rice], Aaron Cresswell and Arthur back in amongst it because they’ve been important players for us throughout the year,” Moyes said on Friday.

“We’re aware that if we can get them back it would help us. Aaron is getting closer, we’ll monitor it, see how he feels tomorrow [Saturday] and see how we think.”

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-west-ham-news%2c-views-and-gossip” title=”Latest West Ham news, views and gossip!”]

Moyes being cautious with Cresswell’s return from a hamstring injury would be expected to see Johnson retain his position at left-back from the Newcastle defeat, and offer Benrahma a route back into the side with Dawson’s red card ensuring changes are made.

While Johnson impressed at St. James’ Park and provided a team-high three key passes – only Allan Saint-Maximin (5) offered more for the home side, per WhoScored – the 21-year-old occasionally struggled to push forward up the pitch.

The defender’s difficulties offering an attacking presence were heightened after Dawson’s red card, and will be a point of focus for Moyes in preparation for hosting Chelsea after seeing Johnson similarly struggle at Manchester United last month.

Former Sheffield United midfielder Michael Brown was particularly concerned by Johnson’s inability to get up the pitch and exploit the space being left by the Red Devils, before Moyes saw enough and replaced him with Mark Noble near the hour mark.

“Ben Johnson does not understand where David Moyes wants him to be,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live. “Moyes has told him regularly now: ‘go on, push on, be that outlet out wide at the top of the pitch’. I think he is frightened to do it.”

Moyes could avoid a repeat by starting Benrahma against Chelsea and taking some of the offensive burden away from Johnson, allowing the Algerian to be a potential game-changer for the Hammers amid his continued search for a maiden goal in claret and blue.

Benrahma – who Brown believes has “unbelievable ability” – offered two key passes in his last start at home to Arsenal, only behind Antonio (5) and completed a team-high three dribbles as he dragged play past Man of the Match Calum Chambers, per WhoScored.

Giving Benrahma the nod to start at home to Chelsea will also allow Moyes to see if the 25-year-old is adhering to his advice, after claiming an end product was the only thing lacking from the £30m summer signing’s game.

“I’ve had a bit of a laugh with him because I’m saying to him: ‘I didn’t realise I’d signed a really hard-working midfield player who runs and closes down, and does all the defensive duties,’” Moyes said, via quotes by The Guardian in February.

“I said: ‘I thought we got someone for assists and goal making.’ They’re the bits which I think he’s probably needed to improve. The other part has been excellent.”

It’s been a really difficult start to life at West Ham for Benrahma with no goals whatsoever in his 24 Premier League games. A clash against Chelsea could be the real start of his Hammers career however.

Rangers in Moumi Ngamaleu transfer race

According to TEAMtalk, Glasgow Rangers are said to be interested in Cameroon winger Moumi Ngamaleu.

Gers eye Ngamaleu

The Gers are said to be in pursuit of the 26-year-old, who currently plays in Switzerland for Young Boys.

They are not the only party with eyes on him, though, with Leeds, Brighton, Everton and Leicester all mentioned as prospective suitors.

Interesting option

Ngamaleu could very well be an interesting option for Steven Gerrard. While he is predominantly a left winger, he is quite versatile and can play anywhere across the front three (Transfermarkt). With Young Boys, he has a solid return of 32 goals and 35 assists in 166 matches and has picked up regular European experience during his time in Bern, including this season in the Europa League.

One performance in particular which showed what Ngamaleu is about came against Juventus during the 2018/19 Champions League. As Young Boys beat the Serie A champions 2-1, the winger created both of his side’s goals and was a general menace throughout the game.

Currently valued at £3.42m by Transfermarkt and with two years left on his contract, he may not come too cheap, but that should not mean he will be out of the Gers’ price range. With plenty of competition for his signature, Ross Wilson will likely have to move quickly if he wants to capture Ngamaleu.

In other news, Rangers are in advanced talks to sign this striker.

Spurs’ Hitchen suggests Potter

Tottenham technical performance director Steve Hitchen has suggested that Graham Potter as a potential candidate to take over the vacant manager’s position at the club.

Hitchen suggests Potter

Jose Mourinho was sacked two weeks ago and Ryan Mason has since taken over on an interim basis. However, it seems unlikely that he will be given the job permanently.

According to the Daily Mail journalist Ian Ladyman, Hitchen has suggested to chairman Daniel Levy that Potter be considered for the role.

Left-field

Potter would seem to be a left-field appointment if Tottenham plump for him. Spurs have been linked with the likes of Julian Nagelsmann, Hansi Flick (The Telegraph), Erik Ten Hag (The Guardian) and Rafael Benitez – managers who have coached in, and occasionally won, the Champions League.

The Brighton boss does not match that profile, his European pedigree limited to a Europa League round of 32 run with Ostersunds three years ago.

Having said that, Potter has earned plaudits from the likes of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola for the way he has his Brighton team playing (The Football Faithful). The Seagulls may not have always managed to get the right results this season, but only six top-flight teams have had more shots on target per match, while they have averaged over 50% possession (WhoScored).

At Tottenham, he would have a better squad and a bigger budget than at the Amex Stadium, while he should also come a lot cheaper than the other options being mooted. Potter is certainly someone who should at least be considered as Mourinho’s long-term successor.

In other news, this man reportedly fancies the Tottenham managerial position.

West Ham team & injury news v Everton

West Ham United will be looking to continue their late-season push to qualify for a European berth when they welcome Everton to the London Stadium this afternoon.

Last time out, David Moyes’ side came from behind to defeat Burnley thanks to a brace from the returning Michail Antonio, and those three points have put them in a very strong position to feature in UEFA competition in 2021/22.

The Irons could maintain the pressure on capital rivals Chelsea and keep their opposition at bay with another victory here, so it will be interesting to see what sort of line up the 58-year-old deploys.

Here’s the XI we’re predicting, along with the latest team and injury news…

Moyes could make just three changes from the side that tasted victory on Monday night, with a pair of first-choice starters in line to return from injury.

Antonio got through the full 90 minutes unscathed and should be fine to feature once again. He could be joined in the team by returning defender Angelo Ogbonna, who missed the trip to Burnley with a hamstring problem, and Declan Rice, who could be a surprise starter having missed their last five outings.

ExWHUemployee claimed that the 32-year-old “should be back”, whilst Moyes said he was “hoping to have” the England international available ahead of kick-off in his pre-match press conference, so that’s an encouraging sign.

Ogbonna should come straight back in for Issa Diop, with Manuel Lanzini likely to face the chop in midfield. It means we may see a back four of Aaron Cresswell, Craig Dawson, Vladimir Coufal and the Italian, in front of Lukasz Fabianski.

In midfield, Rice would be likely to join Tomas Soucek, with loan sensation Jesse Lingard and Pablo Fornals keeping their places, although we could see Said Benrahma drop to the bench despite the £18m-rated star’s impressive showing at Turf Moor.

Jarrod Bowen would be the obvious replacement for the Algerian in attack after the 24-year-old was axed against Burnley.

Newcastle could sign an Almiron upgrade in Kakuta

Newcastle United could sign a major upgrade in Miguel Almiron in former Chelsea starlet Gael Kakuta.

What’s the story?

The 29-year-old is a familiar name in English football after his early high-profile move to Stamford Bridge in the late 2000s, with FIFA finding the Blues in contravention of their rules and banning them from signing any new players for a couple of years.

Now, Kakuta is plying his trade for Ligue 1 side Amiens, but has spent this season on loan at fellow French outfit Lens where he has played a starring role, scoring 11 times in the league alone.

And, according to Foot Mercato, Steve Bruce’s side have already contacted his representatives over a potential move in the summer, although it is suggested Kakuta himself is intent on finishing the season before making his decision.

An upgrade on Almiron

Dubbed as being “phenomenal” by French football journalist Zach Lowy, Kakuta’s form at Lens this campaign even saw him named into L’Equipe’s team of the season for the first-half of the year back in January.

With 11 goals and five assists in 33 league games for Lens, the attacking midfielder appears to be among the best form of his career, and the Magpies could do with that kind of production from someone other than Callum Wilson.

In fact, when you compare Kakuta to Almiron, Bruce could land a real upgrade on the Paraguay international.

Not only does Kakuta comprehensively outdo Almiron in terms of goal contributions – the Magpies ace has just five goals and three assists this season – he’s also been far more influential in terms of the key underlying numbers too.

As per Whoscored, the Lens attacker averages more shots, key passes and dribbles per game than the 27-year-old, while he also averages more than double the amount of crosses too – the kind of all-around influence that has seen Lens punching above their weight and lying in sixth in Ligue 1.

The £7.2m-rated Kakuta is the kind of attacking midfielder the Magpies desperately need, and one they surely thought they were getting from when they signed Almiron.

Meanwhile, Newcastle must land this “absolute tank” this summer…

West Ham fans rage at Jesse Lingard news

Many West Ham United fans are unhappy after it was revealed that Jesse Lingard could return to Manchester United for good at the end of the season as the Hammers cannot afford to sign him permanently.

The £13.5m-valued maestro, who made the move on loan to the London Stadium in January, has been a revelation under David Moyes. In 13 Premier League games, he has helped himself to nine goals and four assists (Transfermarkt), and his arrival gave the Irons a boost as they attempt to qualify for the Champions League for the first time.

It has been suggested previously that Lingard would set West Ham back £20m if they signed him permanently (Eurosport). However, according to the Daily Mail, the England international could start next season back at Old Trafford as West Ham are unsure whether they will have the funds required to sign him on a permanent basis.

The news was shared on Twitter by @WestHamViews_, and it attracted plenty of attention from Hammers fans. These supporters took to the social media platform to share their thoughts, with one taking aim at the club’s much-maligned GSB ownership for their apparent reluctance to stump up the necessary funds for a permanent capture.

Celtic: Whelan urges Leeds to make Edouard move

Former Leeds United striker and now Football Insider pundit Noel Whelan has urged the Whites to make a move for Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard.

The Lowdown: Edouard set for exit

It seems as if Edouard has now played his final game for the Hoops. The Frenchman started in the club’s final game of the season against Hibernian on Saturday, with the Easter Road clash ending in a stalemate.

Reports in recent months have suggested that the 23-year-old wants to leave Celtic Park this summer, regardless of who comes in to replace Neil Lennon. Leicester City are reportedly confident of securing Edouard’s services, but Whelan wants Leeds to make their move over the coming months.

The Latest: Whelan urges Leeds to make move

According to Football Insider, Leeds are putting plans in place to sign a new, young striker and have set aside £20m-25m to bolster their attacking ranks.

Speaking to Football Insider about the subject, Whelan staked his claim for Edouard, who Lennon described as ‘magnificent’ earlier this season. The 46-year-old said:

“We’ve got to look long term here.

“You want someone you can improve, can grow into the side, grow into the football club and be there for three to four seasons. There’s already a player out there – Edouard.

“I keep saying it, go get him. He’s at Celtic. He fits that mould, he’d be competition. There’s many, many clubs interested in him, why shouldn’t we be? You can get him at a really good price.

“We’ve got to start looking at other people. Can we take away the players that other teams are trying to get?

“Victor Orta’s not failed us yet. What we do need is that striker. That’s the right criteria that we need to bring into the football club.”

The Verdict: Hoops need a proven replacement

With Edouard seemingly on his way out of Parkhead, we feel it is pivotal that Celtic bring in a proven replacement this summer. The Frenchman has netted 57 Scottish Premiership goals in 100 appearances, with 16 of those coming in the current campaign.

Mohamed Elyounoussi is the only other Hoops player to net double figures this season in all competitions, and he’s set to return to Southampton over the coming weeks.

Immediate firepower seems to be what is required under the new manager, so it looks set to be a crucial summer window for new Celtic CEO Dominic McKay.

Liverpool fans fume at Naby Keita update

A number of Liverpool supporters have been left hugely frustrated after an injury update on Naby Keita, with the Guinean suffering a fresh setback.

He joined Liverpool with high expectations back in the summer of 2018, arriving from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig. It just hasn’t worked out for the midfielder to date, though, with constant injury problems and inconsistent form playing a part in his struggles – his £52.75m transfer fee has returned just seven goals in 76 appearances.

[freshpress-quiz id=“355458″]

That’s not to say that Keita has offered nothing to the cause, with the 26-year-old chipping in with good performances over the years, particularly in 2018/19, but there is no denying that he has been a big disappointment.

Keita is now missing with a hamstring problem, as confirmed by journalist Sego Diallo on Twitter, as his fitness woes show no sign of going away.

AVFC given huge transfer boost over Rashica

Aston Villa have been handed a golden chance to sign Werder Bremen winger Milot Rashica this summer.

What’s the story?

It was claimed that, after initially wanting to stay in the Bundesliga, the Kosovan had a change of heart and was open to a move to the Premier League and to Villa, with Dean Smith’s side ready to spend big to get him.

While a deal failed to materialise before the end of the deadline, it appears that Villa are ready to go back in for the winger. According to Football Insider, the Midlands club are preparing a fresh move for the 24-year-old this summer, adding that he “is on the club’s shortlist of potential wide forward signings going into the next transfer window”.

They have been handed a potentially significant boost in the chase to sign him, with Bremen’s relegation from the Bundesliga confirmed at the weekend after their defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach.

Lange will be buzzing

Given how Johan Lange wanted to sign him last summer, news that Bremen have gone down will surely have Villa’s sporting director grinning from ear to ear over potentially doing a deal for Rashica this time around – and at a potential cut-price fee, too.

Florian Kohfeldt, Rashica’s manager at Bremen, has previously raved about the winger’s ability, saying: “He is a player who can decide Bundesliga games. You don’t find that very often. Milot has incredible skills. In speed, in goal scoring, in passing. These skills also fall on others. Rashica would fit well to England with his pace, but also with his style of play to Spain.”

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/villa-dean-smith-transfer-gossip-rumours-news-premier-league-buendia-berge-mcneil-trezeguet-villa-park” title=”Read the latest Villa transfer rumours and news!”]

Hailed as someone who “makes scoring look easy”, the 24-year-old Rashica can play anywhere just behind the striker as well as at centre-forward, and that kind of versatility will surely be very much appreciated by Smith.

Bremen’s relegation gives Villa the perfect chance to finally snap him up.

Meanwhile, this Villa star just sent a huge message…
