Howey urges Saint-Maximin to stay at NUFC

Speaking to The Transfer Tavern, former Newcastle defender Steve Howey has urged Allan Saint-Maximin to remain at the club this summer with a two-word message – “just wait”.

Whilst the Frenchman is yet to show regular consistency or produce good numbers for the Magpies, his incredible pace and skill set make him an asset to most Premier League sides.

Saint-Maximin managed three goals and five assists in 25 league appearances, which is the same amount he racked up last season.

Six of those eight goal contributions came across a seven-game spell, including an equaliser at Old Trafford and a crucial goal and assist off the bench to help Newcastle to three season-changing points at Burnley, which boosted their survival hopes in April.

Saint-Maximin sent a warning to Newcastle earlier this month about his future, suggesting that the club are better than fighting against relegation, with Steve Bruce conceding bids are likely to arrive for him.

And whilst Howey understands his frustrations, he told the speedy attacker to wait until the adoring fans return to St James’ Park next season.

He exclusively told The Transfer Tavern:

“You see little clips of him and he’s very good. Will he be tempted to move? Probably.

“I haven’t read into his interviews about what he’s been saying, but if he is thinking, just wait. Wait until the fans come back because if you produce some of the stuff that you are, you will not leave because they will absolutely adore you.

“I think there’s nothing better than being at a club where the supporters absolutely love you.”

Steve Bull claims players could follow Nuno

Both Wolves and Nuno Espirito Santo are yet to find their next path on their journey in football and when the former boss finds his new challenge, Wolves legend Steve Bull believes that some players may want to follow him.

Nuno was reportedly not actively looking to get straight back into management, however, since Carlo Ancelotti’s unexpected departure from Everton and following talks with Crystal Palace, the former Wolves manager has been strongly linked with a quick return to the Premier League

It would be a different sort of challenge for Nuno as he would be operating without the help of Jorge Mendes in the transfer market but he could have a lot more money to spend, which could see him raid his former club.

There has been a lot of managers linked with both the Everton and Palace job but Wolves fans will be hoping it isn’t Nuno because he had such a strong bond with the squad that he could potentially look to tempt them away from Molineux, something Bull exclusively told Football FanCast:

“It could be like a can of worms now because wherever Nuno goes he could end up taking one or two players with him.”

Someone that Wolves are reportedly willing to sell this money is Ruben Neves, despite him being the main focal point in their side. Wolves are willing to do business at around the £35 million price mark this summer.

The money would hopefully be put back into the first team and allow them to improve the overall side with a couple of additions at the cost of selling one of their star players.

Man City fans react to Bernardo Silva news

Some Manchester City fans have been reacting to the news that Bernardo Silva is determined to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer.

The Citizens completed the signing of Portugal international from Porto in 2017 for £43m (Sky Sports). He has proven to be an important player for Pep Guardiola’s side over the last four years – he has made 201 appearances in all competitions, scoring 35 goals and providing 44 assists (Transfermarkt) – while he even won Manchester City’s Player of the Season award in 2019.

However, it seems that he is not content at the Etihad Stadium. According to Duncan Castles of The Times, the 26-year-old wants to leave the Citizens to further his career in another country. Indeed, the report claimed that he expects to change clubs during this summer’s transfer window.

The news was shared on Twitter by @City_Xtra, and it attracted plenty of attention from City supporters. These fans took to the social media platform to share their thoughts on the matter, with one insisting that rumoured target Jack Grealish is signed if Bernardo moves elsewhere.

Wolves: Lage must bring Leao to Molineux

Just a matter of weeks after Nuno Santo decided to leave his role with Wolves, the Old Gold have a new manager at the helm.

He is Portuguese, he is young and surprise, surprise, he is part of Jorge Mendes’ Gestifute agency.

On the chalkboard

Bruno Lage’s arrival in the Midlands is a timely one as the summer transfer window opens.

He will need to move cautiously in the window with limited finances available to Wolves but deals could be funded by selling the likes of Ruben Neves and Adama Traore.

One area he’ll need to strengthen is in the final third.

Raul Jimenez will be returning from a fractured skull while Willian Jose will likely stay at Real Sociedad after a disappointing one goal loan spell.

Lage brought through the ever-improving genius, Joao Felix, when he was at Benfica but there’s no guaranteeing he can craft Fabio Silva into a similar player.

The solution

With Wolves’ top scorer finding the net on only five occasions last term, it means that Lage needs to delve into Fosun’s coffers and sign a striker.

The Old Gold have been linked with a few faces including Orlando City’s Daryl Dike but it’s Rafael Leao who is one of the most eye-catching targets.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-wolves-transfer-news-guedes-toney-shaqiri-neves” title=”Read the latest Wolves transfer news!”]

Reports from Italy last month claimed that both Wolves and Everton were interested in signing the Portuguese forward.

A client of Mendes, Milan could be willing to sell the attacker for a fee between €35m-€40m (£30.2m-£34.5m).

By luring him to Molineux, it could make Lage an instant hit with the supporters. After all, Leao is one of the most talented young players in Europe.

Dubbed the Portuguese Kylian Mbappe, the 22-year-old scored seven goals and registered six assists throughout the current campaign. For context, those numbers usurp every single player at Molineux in 2020/21.

Possessing raw pace, he has the potential to stretch a defence in a similar way to Traore.

Whether the Spaniard departs remains to be seen but contract talks are ongoing and could be influenced by Lage’s arrival.

Leao, who can play on either wing or through the middle, would be a phenomenal replacement if Traore does head for the departure lounge.

Speaking about the Portugal international during his youth days, former striker Rolando Bianchi said: “I had seen him at the U20 World Cup with Portugal and he made spectacular plays. He has great speed, he has a touch of the ball.”

What followed were not only comparisons to Mbappe but also to the great Brazilian striker, Ronaldo Nazario. Leao’s former youth coach, Tiago Fernandes, commented: “I’d say that he reminds me of ‘Fenomeno’ Ronaldo for his pace, technique and the quality of his finishing.”

Leao would be a pricey addition to the Wolves squad but he possesses all of the qualities to thrive in Lage’s attacking system.

This would be a superb way to start his time in the Premier League.

AND in other news, Wolves eye move for 6ft4 Mendes client, he’d be a great first signing for Lage…

West Ham transfer update on Armstrong

Lots of West Ham United fans have been left to buzz as a transfer update emerged on Adam Armstrong.

As per the Daily Mail, the Hammers-linked striker could be available in the summer window for a fee of just £8m, given his current contract status and the fact that Blackburn Rovers are willing to cash in on him.

However, they will face a battle with fellow Premier League rivals Southampton and Norwich City for his signature.

Armstrong has come off of the back of a quite remarkable 2020/21 season, in where he scored no fewer than 29 goals and made a further five assists in 43 games in total over all competitions (Transfermarkt).

With Michail Antonio being the only real recognised striker at the London Stadium, the 24-year-old Englishman would certainly be an ideal signing for David Moyes.

Spurs: De Vrij would be a dream for Fonseca

Fabio Paratici is eyeing up a raid on the Italian top-flight for his first signings as Tottenham Hotspur director of football, according to emerging reports…

What’s the word?

InterLive.it claim that the 48-year-old is targeting a double swoop on Serie A champions Inter Milan, in which central defender Stefan de Vrij is mentioned.

It’s thought that Paratici could offer around €22m (£18.5m) for his signature, with midfielder Marcelo Brozovic the other name mooted by the report.

This isn’t the first time that the North London outfit have been linked to the Dutch international in recent weeks as he was considered to be a potential target for Antonio Conte before he pulled out of talks to join the club.

A dream start?

There is a mighty task at hand for both Paratici and incoming manager Paulo Fonseca but a move for De Vrij could be the perfect signing to kickstart the new era at the Lilywhites.

Before either man had arrived at the club, football.london’s Alasdair Gold reported that Spurs were wanting to sign two central defenders in the transfer market but they’ll need to move a couple on first.

For much of the 2020/21 campaign, Jose Mourinho and then interim Ryan Mason suffered from numerous individual mistakes and a serious lack of cohesion in the backline. Ultimately, this was the defining and worrying theme of their tumultuous season.

It was so bad at one point that former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara lambasted Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez as “one of the worst partnerships in the Premier League” to talkSPORT, whilst the sacked Portuguese coach utilised over 16 different defensive combinations throughout the year.

De Vrij has emerged as a solid defender over in Italy and could prove to be the difference-maker if signed by Paratici. If Fonseca is to be given the best chance of success, then he needs an addition of this calibre.

The 46-cap defender, who stands at 6 foot 2, played an integral part in Inter’s title-winning run, in which they recorded the best defensive record of anyone in the league.

He rated out as one of Conte’s best options on the ball, averaging an impressive 93.8% passing accuracy, which eclipses all of Spurs’ current defensive options. And even anyone in the squad, including anchorman Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Therefore, he seems to be the perfect fit to sit in the middle of Fonseca’s preferred three-man defence.

The £45m-rated colossus also averaged 0.9 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and two aerial duels won per game, via WhoScored, so it’s no wonder that former Lazio legend Mauricio dubbed him a “monster” to ESPN (via Football Italia).

Paratici and Levy must look to seal a move for De Vrij this summer as on the above evidence, he’d be a dream signing for Fonseca in North London.

AND in other news, Paratici must ruthlessly axe “underrated” £90k-p/w dud who’s held Spurs back for years…

West Ham enquiry made for Camara

According to Sport Witness, West Ham United and Aston Villa have both ‘asked for information’ in enquiries to sign BSC Young Boys defender Mohamed Ali Camara.

The Lowdown: West Ham in defender chase…

David Moyes reportedly has three transfer priorities for West Ham this summer as he aims to bolster key positions ahead of what is set to be a busy 2021/2022 campaign.

A permanent deal for 20/21 loan star Jesse Lingard and a new star striker are said to be at the forefront of his mind, but Moyes is also eyeing a new centre-back to reinforce his back four (Claret & Hugh).

Fabian Balbuena is set to leave the club when his contract expires June 30 and West Ham will be on the look out for a replacement.

The Latest: West Ham make enquiry to sign Camara…

As per Sport Witness, West Ham have now ‘asked for information’ in an enquiry to sign BSC Young Boys powerhouse Camara alongside Premier League rivals Aston Villa.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-latest/” title=”West Ham latest!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The 6 foot 3 defender was a colossal presence for Young Boys, making 39 appearances in all competitions and leading them to a Swiss league title.

Indeed, his form hasn’t gone unnoticed in England either as both the Hammers and Villa eye a move.

Despite Camara just putting pen to paper on a contract extension last month, a source has still told Sport Witness that Young Boys will allow the player to leave if they receive a convincing enough offer.

Moyes and West Ham have probed in regards to Camara but it remains to be seen whether they take it further.

The Verdict: Good option?

Enjoying a highly impressive season at the heart of Young Boys’ defence, Camara could come as a good candidate to strengthen West Ham’s centre-back options.

It’s unclear how much the Swiss giants would demand for Camara, but the five-cap Guinea international may be attract plenty of interest due to his great year at the Wankdorf Stadium.

There is still plenty of time left in the summer market to assess options and we believe the 23-year-old should definitely be in the conversation, at the very least.

Leeds facing Nahitan Nandez transfer misery

Leeds United could be facing late transfer misery over Cagliari’s Nahitan Nandez as a fresh twist emerges in their pursuit of the midfielder.

What’s the story?

Reports in recent weeks had suggested that Marcelo Bielsa is eyeing up a summer move for the 25-year-old, with Italian publication La Nuova Sardegna even claiming that the Whites were ready to pay the €36m (£31m) release clause in order to bring him to Elland Road.

However, Il Giorno has now claimed (via Cagliari News 24) that Serie A giants Inter have joined the fray to sign Nandez, and that their offer could include the the likes of Radja Nainggolan and Andrea Pinamonti in a deal.

The report added that Inter will not give up on his signing.

Marcelo Bielsa will be livid

After reports emerged last year that Leeds were keen on signing Nandez, it’s clear that the Uruguayan has been a real key target for Bielsa as the manager looks to beef up his central midfield positions.

Connor Clancy, editor-in-chief at Forza Italian Football, has previously raved about what Nandez could bring to the table at Leeds, telling This Is Futbol: “Anywhere Bielsa wants to play him, he’d do a job. I like him a lot. I think he’s only about five foot seven, but you wouldn’t know it if you just watched clips of him, he is a little bit of a machine. He’s so powerful but at the same time, has really, really good ball control.”

Given the fact that he had a release clause in his contract, Leeds knew exactly what they needed to do if they were serious about signing him, rather than delaying or wasting time over potentially haggling a fee.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/leeds-united-marcelo-bielsa-transfer-gossip-rumours-news-elland-road-rodrigo-de-paul” title=”Read the latest Leeds transfer rumours and news!”]

Now that they’ve left it so long to do so means that rival clubs can swoop in at the last moment, and that appears to be the case with Inter now arriving on the scene.

It’s exactly why Bielsa must be livid that one of his main targets – who he had reportedly insisted on signing this summer – could fall through the club’s grasp.

It would be a major blow to the Leeds manager were Nandez to move somewhere other than Elland Road this summer.

Meanwhile, Leeds must sign this player Bielsa loves…

SAFC fans love Sloanes exit

Sunderland fans have been reacting to the news that Tom Sloanes has resigned from the club’s Board of Directors with immediate effect.

The Black Cats suffered heartbreak last term. They appeared to be on the verge of automatic promotion to the Championship, but a poor run of form saw them drop into the play-offs instead. There, they lost to Lincoln City in the semi-finals, and their hopes were therefore over.

Sunderland will be aiming to go up again this year. There has been a lot of change at the club recently, in particular with Kyril Louis-Dreyfus replacing Stewart Donald as the club’s owner. There has now been another exit, as well, with the club confirming Sloanes has left his role at the Stadium of Light (safc.com).

The news was shared on Sunderland’s official Twitter account, and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters. They took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

Celtic open talks over Kyle Edwards signing

Once Ange Postecoglou has taken charge of his first Celtic match on Wednesday afternoon, his attentions will quickly revert back to the transfer window.

The Hoops are in talks to sign a number of players, including defenders Mario Vuskovic and Aaron Hickey. That said, Celtic have other targets in mind as well.

What’s the word?

According to Football Insider, the Bhoys have begun discussions to sign former West Brom attacker Kyle Edwards.

Celtic were interested in the 23-year-old back in January but following the expiry of his contract at the Hawthorns, he’s now a free agent.

Consequently, they’re now working on a deal to bring him to Paradise this summer.

Postecoglou will have to part ways with £300,000 in compensation towards the Baggies, a fee that will cover development costs.

Bye-bye Christie

If Celtic end up signing Edwards in the next few weeks then it may give the new manager license to finally get rid of Ryan Christie.

The Scot’s contract expires in January, meaning this is the final time the Bhoys can fetch a sum of money for his services.

Crystal Palace have been linked with a switch but given the lack of options Celtic have in their ranks, they need to keep him until they find a replacement.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-celtic-news-doig-nketiah-mccann” title= “Read the latest Celtic transfer news!”]

In Edwards, they could have the perfect man. Like Christie, he’s capable of playing on the flanks and through the middle just behind the striker.

He played just five times for West Brom in the Premier League last season but has caught the eye despite never reaching his full potential.

Edwards has 13 career goals but is a rampant threat, possessing pace in abundance. GPS data tracked the wide man as the fastest player in the Albion squad last summer, which is a trait that would go down enormously well at Paradise.

Speaking about the forward’s qualities, former Celtic target Romaine Sawyers once said: “I remember Kyle when he was proper, proper small — he was an unbelievable player even then.”

Sawyers continued: “Mark Harrison, our old academy manager, told my age group, ‘We’ve got this kid who is 10 years old and this is Messi.’ No word of a lie; I could see the comparison back then. If Kyle’s got videos, I’d urge him to show anybody. He was unbelievable and to see him now in the first team warms my heart.”

With the ability to dribble past players with ease, he’d be a wonderful addition to the Celtic ranks.

It could also appease the supporters who are keen to see Christie leave this summer. In Edwards, they have the ideal replacement.

AND in other news, Celtic chiefs expect to sign £6.8m gem who’s “like Philipp Lahm”, fans will be buzzing…
