É a vez do Flamengo?

2009 – Palmeiras: 44

Rajat Paliwal was their top scorer with 43, while Yashpal Singh and Saurabh Kumar chipped in with thirties. For Himachal, Dhawan collected 4 for 70, while Bipul Sharma took 3 for 42, as Services were bowled out for 224 in 97.2 overs.

Weverton defendeu a do autor do gol.

E a insistência deu resultado.

Shukla lauds 'champions' of Bengal

As Laxmi Ratan Shukla sat down for the post-match press conference, he put his arms around Ashok Dinda and Wriddhiman Saha, who were seated either side of him and declared: “The two champions of Bengal”

Shukla: I had said at the start that this would be a tough match, but we were desperate to win•Abhijit Addya

As Laxmi Shukla sat down for the post-match press conference, he put his arms around Ashok Dinda and Wriddhiman Saha, who were seated either side of him and declared: “The two champions of Bengal.”The camaraderie in the side that had just beaten Railways to enter their first semi-final since 2006-07, when they were the runners-up, was easy to see and, given the impact they had on the match, Shukla’s statement seemed justified. Dinda took eight wickets in the match, including a six-for in the first innings, and scored some useful runs lower down the order. Saha, meanwhile, played two important knocks of 87 and 81 to help Bengal post totals that were, on both occasions, out of reach for Railways. Saha was also named Man of the Match for his efforts.”They are the senior players and they delivered under pressure,” Shukla said. “The way Dinda and Sourav Sarkar partnered together, the way Wriddhi played in the second innings. It was a convincing win and we did the small things well.”Shukla also heaped praise on Railways, saying the close nature of the game was a measure of the opposition Bengal faced. “All the games went to four days, but ours went into five,” Shukla said. “Credit to Railways. They topped our group and were a superb team. I had said at the start that this would be a tough match, but we were desperate to win. We have nothing to look back at. We have lost so much. We had a good team but did badly in the last few seasons. I am not too happy, but happy enough to make the semis. We have a long way to go and a lot to do.”Dinda, who was wildly cheered by a large crowd just outside the entrance of the stadium, said he was happy with the win, Bengal’s third in three matches, and hoped the team would go on to win the remaining two.Saha, whose fifties and lower-order partnerships rescued Bengal in critical situations, said he was spurred by the aim to do well in the tournament. “I want to do well, very well,” Saha said. “The idea is to build partnerships – 10s and 20s. The lower order also batted well in this match. Dinda, Maco [SS Paul] and Sarkar were outstanding in the last spell and today.”Both Shukla and Saha also credited Ashok Malhotra for his inputs as coach. Malhotra was appointed coach earlier this year after WV Raman resigned. “Paaji [Malhotra] inspires us a lot,” Shukla said. “Even if someone is unwell, he inspires him. I am not going to compare him with previous coaches, but Paaji is an inspiration to us. He has played such great cricket too. We have tried to do well and we have succeeded, but we have a long way to go.”When asked what he thought about the possibility of Mohammed Shami and Saha’s inclusion in India’s XI on the New Zealand tour, Shukla said: “This is not an achievement, this is our passion. I have said before that I don’t want to see Wriddhi and Dinda and Shami in the dressing room. I want to see them playing for India. The more they play for India, the more proud we will feel.”

Mathews fears for bowlers under new ODI rules

Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews has added his voice to the growing din of international players and captains who have questioned the new ODI rules. Last month, MS Dhoni suggested the current playing conditions reduced bowlers to little more than bowling machines, with team-mate Suresh Raina also expressing a similar sentiment.Last year, then-Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene had been critical of the rule restricting the number of outfield fielders to four during the non Powerplay overs, as well as the rule that requires teams use a new ball from either end. He reasoned that spinners would end up having to bowl defensively, or risk becoming extinct in 50-over cricket, and that reverse-swing had also largely left the one-day game.Unlike in India, where totals have grown considerably in the year since the new rules were instituted, team scores in Sri Lanka have been roughly moderate, but Mathews lamented the difficulties for bowlers ahead of the third ODI against New Zealand in Dambulla.”The bowlers might retire very soon, the way the rules are going,” Mathews said. “With the fielders inside the circle, it’s very hard for the bowlers. I feel for them. With these rules, with the two new balls, it’s very hard for the spinners. You have to be a very good spinner to get away from the batsman. You can’t go in with half-bowlers.””Now as a bowler, you’ve got to think a step ahead of the batsman. You have to anticipate what he’s going to do, but you can’t also pre-plan – you have to wait till the last moment for the batsman to do something and then react. You might go up to the mark and think you’re going to bowl a yorker, but you might have to change that in the end. Even in the delivery stride, you might have to adjust. So you have to bowl according to the batsman. “Mathews also suggested his team would make two changes to the XI as they seek to level the three-match series. Sri Lanka have lately followed a policy of providing young batsmen ample opportunity before discarding them, but opener Dimuth Karunaratne is unlikely to benefit from that largesse in ODIs after a first-ball duck and a four, in the two matches so far.Sri Lanka have searched all year for the opening batsman who might partner Tillakaratne Dilshan in the 2015 World Cup, but despite two young candidates having impressed in patches – Karunaratne and Kusal Perera – neither batsman could sustain their success. Jayawardene has often moved up the order when the second opener has failed, and though he thrives atop the order, he has had to move back down to No. 4 to bridge gaps in the middle order.”We’ve been trying to get an opener for a while now. We’ve opened with Mahela and Dilshan, we’ve opened with Kusal Perera and Upul Tharanga as well. It hasn’t worked for us, so the selectors thought they’d try out Dimuth Karunaratne as well, because he’s scored a lot of runs in the A team. Unfortunately he failed in the first two matches, so it might be a different combination tomorrow.”Kusal is in the squad for the series but Mathews refused to reveal which opening combination Sri Lanka might employ. Aside from Karunaratne, Perera and Jayawardene, Lahiru Thirimanne is also capable of opening, having performed the role for his domestic teams as well as for Sri Lanka in Tests, the latter albeit unsuccessfully. The second likely change for the match is allrounder Thisara Perera’s inclusion, after he had been left out for the first two matches. After having been an ODI regular for over a year, Perera had a somewhat unsteady few months with selection. He had been left out from Sri Lanka’s ODI tri-series squad to the West Indies, but played well at home against South Africa in the series that followed.”Thisara is a match-winner and we need to find a way to bring him back to the team. In the South Africa series we rotated the seniors, but we will play our best available team tomorrow. Whether Thisara will come in in place of another bowler or another batsman – we’re not yet sure. We’ll have to take a call on our exact combination after having another look at the pitch.”

Mickleburgh begins push for victory

Gautam Gambhir and Jaik Mickleburgh got Essex off to a strong start in reply to Glamorgan’s 322 on the second day at Chelmsford, a match they need to win to maintain their promotion challenge

ScorecardJaik Mickleburgh will hope for more runs on day three as Essex chase victory over Glamorgan to keep up in the promotion race•Getty ImagesGautam Gambhir and Jaik Mickleburgh got Essex off to a strong start in reply to Glamorgan’s 322 on the second day at Chelmsford, a match they need to win to maintain their promotion challenge. They put on 95 in 23 overs before Gambhir fell victim to slow left-armer Dean Cosker but the home side steered clear of further trouble before the close to reach 107 for 1.Both openers had punctuated the field with some fine driving and pulling before they were separated with Mickleburgh completing his half-century from 62 balls with the help of eight boundaries. He is due to resume on 68 accompanied by Greg Smith, who was yet score and arrived at the crease on the fall of Gambhir, who had scored 37 when he was caught at extra cover. But with unsettled weather forecast for Thursday, it seems likely that the captains will have to come to some agreement to contrive a positive result. Certainly Essex will be hoping so because this is a match they must win if they are to keep alive their slender promotion hopes.Earlier paceman David Masters claimed his fourth haul of five wickets or more in an innings this season, one of them being against Glamorgan in May.After the visitors had resumed on 103 for 2, Masters was soon adding to his overnight two wickets by trapping Ben Wright lbw for 45 to bring an end a partnership of 107 with Murray Goodwin in 44 overs. He also got rid of Goodwin caught in the slips by Owais Shah as he pushed forward after the Zimbabwean had struck a solid 65 that had taken him nearly four hours. His 169-ball effort contained just five fours. But Goodwin’s departure only paved the way for the most entertaining partnership of the innings which featured Chris Cooke and Mark Wallace who went boldly for their strokes while gathering 95 in 21 overs against bowlers who, apart from Masters, struggled to find a consistent line and length. It was broken when medium-pacer Ravi Bopara breached the defence of Wallace who had scored 38 and eight runs later, with the total on 234, left-arm spinner Monty Panesar claimed an lbw verdict to get rid of Cooke. His 67 came from 106 balls and included eight fours and a six.John Glover struck an unbeaten 39 and Glamorgan reached 300 to claim their third batting point but that total would have been less imposing had Masters received better support. His unerring accuracy was illustrated by his figures of 5 for 68 from 36 overs, during which he collected his 50th Championship wicket of the summer.

Vince blows Middlesex away

ScorecardJames Vince blazed a trail for Hampshire•Getty Images

James Vince hit a brutal 84 off only 49 balls to lead holders Hampshire to the top of the Friends Life t20 South Division with a seven-wicket thrashing of previous leaders Middlesex at Richmond. It looked as though Middlesex had set Hampshire a challenging target when Dawid Malan’s 77 enabled the hosts to reach 164 for 5 on a slow, club pitch but Vince and his opening partner Michael Carberry made a mockery of it by putting on 89 in the first seven overs. They made a relatively slow start but the floodgates opened in the third over when Carberry hit Kyle Mills, the New Zealand fast bowler, for four, four, six, four, four and two.Two overs later, England Lions batsman Vince followed suit by cracking Gurjit Sandhu for five successive fours and when Carberry thumped Neil Dexter for a four and two sixes in the same over Hampshire had plundered 83 from the Powerplay.Middlesex needed a huge slice of luck to break the stand when Vince drove Ravi Patel straight back down the pitch and Patel, the left-arm spinner, deflected the ball into the stumps to run out Carberry, who had made 43 off 16 balls with five fours and three sixes. But there was no respite for Middlesex, as Jimmy Adams helped Vince add another 70 in eight overs before Vince, who had hit 12 fours and two sixes, drove Sandhu to Paul Stirling to deep mid-off. Adams fell for 29 in the same over but Hampshire romped home with 4.5 overs to spare.Hampshire bowler Dimitri Mascarenhas had taken an early grip on the game by having Stirling caught on the midwicket boundary by Adam Wheater and Joe Denly at cover by a diving Adams in a four-over spell that cost only 19 runs.Middlesex were contained to 57 in the first 10 overs before Adam Voges broke the shackles by hitting Liam Dawson for two fours and a six in one over and going on to share a third-wicket partnership of 55 in seven overs with Malan.Voges had made 28 off 17 balls when he heaved Vince to Carberry on the midwicket boundary and Malan found an even more productive partner in Adam Rossington who helped him add another 52 in only four overs.Rossington also hit three fours and a six in his 26 off 16 balls before he pulled a Danny Briggs full toss to Dawson on the square leg boundary and Malan had struck nine fours and a six when he was caught at long on off the last ball of the innings.
